    Paul Allen has died

Stunning, even considering his recent diagnosis. Awful, awful news for his family. It says a lot about a person when after their passing, one needs to digress through a few levels of appropriate conversation in order to speak of them as, you know, the outright savior of a franchise and fanbase...

    My thought exactly.

Who will our back up be?

Kaep would immediately be the best backup in the league. I'm pulling for a signing.

Looks like Minnesota didn't retire John Randle's number.

Wilhoite's Smart Play on the End Zone Fumble!

I hope Earl didn't break his hand on Wentz's helmet; he directly chopped it at full force.

Wilhoite's Smart Play on the End Zone Fumble!

The fumble was all skill on our part. The ensuing bounce was luck, but was aided by a heads-up block. Had the ball bounced into Smith's hands, I wager we'd be asking why Wilhoite didn't attempt a catch in the air instead of going for the block. It's worth another look from the endzone cam.

    Ok....the lateral????

The entire notion of a legal moving lateral — a play utilized since the beginning of the sport — is now in question. Some clarification from the NFL should be in order.

Wilhoite's Smart Play on the End Zone Fumble!

We also had a most favorable bounce; had the ball traveled to the sideline instead of the goal post, we might be talking about a loss. Either way, Wilhoite's play was key for timing.

    Ok....the lateral????

(my emphasis in bold above) There are no truly to-the-micron dead-lateral, non-backwards passes unless we're rounding to the nearest half-yard. I'm simply talking about the gesture of what the NFL terms a backwards-pass lateral, which Wilson, and hundreds of QBs before him, clearly fulfilled...

    Ok....the lateral????

The rule as currently stated undergoes the same degree of replay scrutiny.

    Ok....the lateral????

I'd tried to account for your loophole with the (bold) section above. A lateral should always be a backwards-toss gesture in keeping with the spirit of the play.
  13. Our Man in Chicago

    Ok....the lateral????

An additional factor is this: NFL viewing audiences are clearly swayed by NFL broadcast crew opinions and hyperbole. If the "Fail Mary" had not been exaggerated as "the absolute worst call in NFL history," most fans wouldn't have water-coolered it thus on Tuesday morning. Likewise, this play —...
  14. Our Man in Chicago

    Ok....the lateral????

The play in question was clearly a forward pass as defined by current rules, and the Seahawks thus benefited from the lack of an infraction call. This is not seriously in question. The rules governing a lateral, however, should be subject for reassessment in light of current technological...

    Mike Davis

If so, which week was the cutoff? Week 8? Without knowing anything substantive about this situation — other than the fact that we have too many Backs active at present — might it make sense to IR Lacy in favor of MD?

Awesome All Access vid of Hawks vs. Texans

I've tried most brands of store-bought kombuchas as a substitute for alcohol (I am dry); their alcoholic content is usually .5 per vol. depending on the amount of 'mother' left in the bottle. I don't pay attention to any brands' health-tonic claims and just go for taste. This, a local brew, is...
