The Broncos are spending big in free agency so far, but there's an interesting trend to their offensive additions.

Mike McGlinchey, run blocking right tackle from the 49ers
Ben Powers, run blocking guard from the Ravens
Chris Manhertz, run blocking tight end from the Jaguars
Jarrett Stidham, backup QB from the Raiders

Adding these guys to Bolles and Mienerz makes that a very strong run blocking offense.

Is it fair to say that Sean Payton is going Pete Carroll on Russ?

Yep, probably. And now that you mention it, we might see Bijan get drafted in the 1st round by the Broncos. What a running unit that would be.

They have no first round pick.
Really? I could've sworn they traded a player away to get a first round pick...haven't heard anything about them trading it away

I don't think Payton has much choice. He has to try to get something out of Wilson and his bloated contract, and this is the best way to do it.

The offensive game plan derided as "Pete-ball" by the Wilson fans and Carroll haters around here (when the more-correct name for it would be "Russ-ball") is the only way that's been found for an NFL team to succeed with Wilson at QB. Carroll created an environment with the best balance possible between getting as much advantage as possible from Wilson's strengths and minimizing the damage done by Wilson's weaknesses. Wilson didn't want to believe that, so he and his crew got the "Let Russ Cook" campaign going in the media.

Yup, Payton figured out that Russell can only run the "Russell Wilson Offense". So he's going all-in. Sweezy, Bowie, Bailey are in talks with the Saints right now. (kidding bout those guys, but ya never know)

Russ is doing high-knees during every media interview to make sure he's ready for all the running he'll be doing this season. Read-option will be a thing again.

Pretty sure Payton said, if he was coaching Russell he’d look at what Seattle did and do the same thing.

So they’re definitely going that route and it’s clear. And Russ probably won’t like it .. but if he’s smart (which is questionable) he’ll accept it was PETES way that got him to the level of success he had in Seattle. And Payton emulating/mimicking that will be what lifts him back up to that level. So long as he’s not tripping over his ego and checks it at the door.

If you look at what SP did when Winston was starting with the Saints he dialed back Winston's hero ball. And asked Winston to play within the confines of the offense by taking what he is being given and running the ball into manageable situations. The offense was driven by Kamara and the other RBs with Winston taking shots downfield when needed.

RW needs a strong minded OC to keep him in check and to not have his heads in the clouds.

Wilson is going to have an MVPish season under Payton.
Last year was a fluke.
Last year wasn't as much of a fluke as you might think. It will be interesting to see if Payton figures out Russ' weaknesses and devises a successful plan to deal with them, in time for Russ to have an "MVPish" season. I kinda doubt it, but we'll see.
