Yeah, my son is pretty geeked! He is really looking forward to meeting him. It's actually a really awesome gesture on Jim's part, and his lil buddy's, actually, because they didn't have to do that. And it didn't take any haggling or pestering from my "money mackin' mouthpiece" ass son like I imagined. Lol. His guy just knows how huge of a Seahawks fan he is. He's already a bigger PURE football fan at 8 than I was at 18 and knows farrrr more Seattle sports history/players/dates than I ever will, because he's an avid reader with a photographic memory. Lil joker absolutely SMOKES me in 'hawks/M' s/Sonics trivia. He had his mom CTFU a couple of weeks ago.I met Zorn twice and he was definitely a genuine guy. The first time I met him was due to my business relationship with a former hawks assisting coach. Zorn and I started talking and somehow the conversation turned to autographs. I said that the autograph market is so crazy now as there are so many fakes out there. He said something like “really“ and. looked surprised at me that that was happening out in the market. Also, I was at an away game and watching Jerry Rice warm up for the Seahawks in pregame, and Zorn came over to me and flipped me a ball. It was a kicking ball from the game before as it had the markings on it and the weak number. I still have the ball and I put it in a case in my house. Again. genuinely a really good guy.
I met he and his family
A few drinks in the club level and after the game i slowed down at a green light until it turned yellow and had my buddy jump out n ask for an autograph
Yes I was that guy and all his wife asked me to do was get a life
Little did she know my life was the Seahawks
I still feel terrible but it's a good story to relate to people on what not to do
Never ever get an autograph with black marker on a black hat lol
He was qbs coach back then
I was out of control at that time in my life
Glad i wasn't violent, i just had zero self control and impulsive
He was nothing but gracious to an idiot
I have everything I got autographed still
And the 1st season at seahawks stadium after the team scrimmage holmy split the team into 4 groups and had an autograph session
Pretty awesome to have a brand new hat autographed with pics of them signing
Always hoped they would do it again
I vaguely remember that 1986 game. I thought the Seahawks won it in overtime but just looked back and saw they won it in the fourth quarter. 24 points in the fourth quarter they scored and won it 38–31. If they had made the playoffs that year, they had a high likelihood of winning the Super Bowl, that’s how good they were. I believe Dave Kreig separated his shoulder earlier on the year and was out for a number of weeks. That cost them the playoff spot. They actually beat the Super Bowl champion Giants that year and also destroyed the Broncos in the last game of the season. Such a wasted season.Zorn was my first childhood sports hero.
I started playing football with kids in my neighborhood in 1975. Initially, I used a hand-me-down helmet and shoulder pads from the town police chief's son, who was three years older than I (probably still is!) and had newer, bigger, and better pads and helmet. The first helmet I used had "Pat Patriot" on the side.
In 1976, I became a Seahawks fan. Zorn was the Seahawks' starting QB, and despite being small for my age and the youngest kid playing, by some time in '76 I could throw the ball better than everyone else in the neighborhood. This is because my dad spent countless hours out in front of our house just throwing the ball back and forth with me and talking. There was a little explicit instruction - how to throw a spiral and the idea of throwing the ball where a receiver would be, not where he was when I was throwing - but it was mostly just the two of us talking about whatever and throwing the ball back and forth. Because I ended up being the QB on offense all the time and Zorn was my team's QB, I identified with him immediately. It didn't bother me that he was left-handed (probably still is!) and I wasn't (I'm still not!).
As I've mentioned many times, my dad took me down to Foxborough to see Seahawks games in 1984 and '86. The on-the-field final result in '86 was better, but the day of the '84 game had one of the greatest moments of my sports-fan life. My dad and I waited around for the players near the team buses after the game. I got a bunch of autographs in my game program, but the highlight was telling Zorn to his face that I had had his autographed pic framed on my wall in Kennebunk, Maine for years.
I can't for the life of me remember exactly what Zorn said, but it was something to the effect of "right on!," and he said it with a certain enthusiasm and a big smile that told me he had gotten the message exactly as I had intended to send it.
