Several tweets that paint the picture we already knew:

"Carroll said WR Percy Harvin had a great workout, but won't practice today. Said he's now in phase two of the rehabbing."

"On Harvin, Carroll said team wants to make sure they can "secure his return" and that he'll be able to finish the season. Being cautious."

"Carroll on Harvin: "For him to play at this level he needs to play full speed and be ready to go." Said he has no hip discomfort now."

When he's ready, hes ready. Exactly what Pete has said the entire time. Expecting updates by the hour isn't going to change his game status.

Sounds to me that Harvin could probably play (and be activated) right now, but the 'hawks want to be triple sure that he won't reinjure himself by coming back too soon. I think it's a bit more cautious than I'd approach it under the circumstances, but given what's been invested, I certainly understand it.

I was hoping to see Harvin for this week, but it sounds like Minny to me.

this is frustrating because the 49ers seem to take no time in returning their guys.

For some reason I disagree. I think he will play Harvin (provided there is no flare up) on Sunday to get his toes wet, maybe 10 plays. Then I expect to see him full throttle against Minny. I think you want him battle tested before you send him to the wolves (Saints, and 9ers). I fully expect to see him on Sunday if Carroll is correct about Harvin not having anymore pain.

Which I think highlights the difference between our two teams and coaches. Enough said.

You never responded when I answered your question. Not understanding why this topic is evoking hostility (subtle as it may be) toward other members.

I hope you're right and will tip my cap to you if you are. I would be suprised at this point to see Harvin activated for Atlanta.

Like who? They activated two guys recently. Manningham injured his knee almost an entire year ago (vs. Seattle). Wright was injured 13 months ago. Neither has actually played yet. Percy had his surgery three months ago.

Don't forget Crabtree who looks to be virtually ready to return as well, and Aldon Smith (assuming the NFL doesn't suspend him a few games and depending on how the weapons charges work out).

One more thing to think about: I think this Atlanta game sets the tone for everything. They win this, they only have two road games left. Atlanta will be a tougher game than Minny at home and I think the Falcons will have a very hard time adjusting their defense if they see number 11 on the field. It will put a monkey wrench into their game plan making it much easier for beast mode and Russell Wilson to avoid 8 or nine man fronts, otherwise you will have either Tate or Harvin in one on one coverage. I am sure that Pete Carroll is going to pull out all the stops to protect Russell. I will be very excited to see Harvin out there and I think it will happen as long as there are no physical setbacks. Pete has been pretty honest about players and if he hasn't ruled him out, he is hoping he plays (That is what I have gathered from him).

its funny that Pete said he was in phase 2, but when asked later about that he admitted that he basically made it up and doesn't know how many phases there are.

Crabtree was cleared to return to practice yesterday. He wasn't worth mentioning because he hasn't even been activated yet. Aldon wasn't an injury issue and again, he hasn't even played yet.

True Crabtree hasn't been activated yet, but given what I have observed about Jim H, I expect he will be this weekend (and I also think if Harvin were a 49ner, he'd already have been activated). True Aldon isn't an injury issue but IMHO it reflects the same mentality. Aldon is far, far frombeing out of the woods (esp with the weapons charges), but the 49ners activated him anyway.
