Kam, Seahawk Value?

I love Kam, Love what he brings, well I love what he used to bring.
He is a intimidater, that is what he brings, but since the 49ers game for what ever reason, he hasn't intimidated or covered.
For Kam to succeed as a Seahawk he has to provide one of these elements.

What I wonder is would it be a loss if the Hawks were without him?
Would we be better suited with a SS that can actually cover a TE or RB coming out of the backfield?

I have very mixed emotions, cause I've seen what he can do, but I don't know anymore.
Has the injury, that I don't even know what is affected him?

He was injured, had a foot or leg problem and was trying to play through it, one of Petes pressers said he had to have a little surgery or something.

He can cover any RB and he can cover a lot of tight ends, except for Tony Gonzalez... but who can haha

People are way too reactionary to year-to-year fluctuation in a player's performance. Kam is only in his 2nd year of starting, was incredible last year, and merely good this year. He was injured, sure, but didn't play at as high of a level in general. Naturally, you tend to over-react to the most recent set of data and assume that it's going to be the trend going forward.

Over both years, Kam has shown that he is a very good player, with good athleticism, excellent hitting ability, and decent coverage skills. He probably won't be a perennial Pro Bowler, IMO, but I suspect he'll make a couple more before his time is done, and that you'll feel silly looking back on this post, for having been so concerned after his second year was only "good" instead of "incredible."

Kam has also done a great job covering TEs and RBs this year, and I can only recall one game where that wasn't true, and that was our last one. Another instance of remembering the most recent information more clearly - we forget that other great receiving TEs and RBs were essentially non-factors against us this year.

I'm not worried about the guy at all.

I think ya'll are spoiled. Kam is a great SS. Just because we are now used to insane talent and have a legit #1 CB and FS, doesn't mean that a #3-4 SS is a bad thing. Kam had to have surgery immediately after the season. I think both him and Red Bryant are in the same class this year... in that they had elite seasons last year but have recently struggled with injury (I have no idea what Kam had, but Red's plantar fasciitis is no joke, my field deals with medicine and a torn meniscus would be better). If able to overcome their injuries, I think both Kam and Red are going to have monster seasons in 2013.

Don't forget Seattle was one of the better teams against tight ends this year, only two touchdowns allowed during the regular season and no 100 yard receivers. If I'm not mistaken wasn't the 49er game week 16? To say he hasn't intimidated someone in a long time when that was three games ago isn't too shabby.

The SS in Seattle's scheme job is to stop the run and cover the TE, I think Kam is an ideal fit for those roles.

Are we spoiled? You said it yourself...he needed surgery right after the season. So that means those complaining about his coverage skills are not complaining for no reason. I'll say it again, I said at the beginning of the season, Kam seemed off. Injured or not, its his job to be there in coverage.

Huh? They were in zone coverage. They blitzed, so it wasn't prevent, but they played zone in coverage. Do you know what you're talking about?

Why do you guys always think its one or the other...I love Kam as a player, but am I wrong to bitch about him missing a lot of assignments this season? Does his position require entirely for him to just smash the opposition? He's still a safety and a part of the secondary, is he not? Part of his job is to cover players. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, he didn't perform his job as well as he did last year.

He's only 24 so I wouldn't worry too much about him. He's still a pup and is only going to get better.

I have a feeling him and ET will do a lot of working out and film study this offseason together.

Spoiled and reactionary sums up this topic for me. Good luck finding a better SS than Kam, even Kam's performance this year. I think it's okay to criticize current players, I just don't have a concern about this particular position.

Kam is one of the hardest hitting players in the league and he just had ankle surgery a week or so ago. He said on twitter his ankle was the single hardest thing he had to deal with all season.
