Heard a lot of it, some good stuff.

-He's really concerned about the toll playing football has had on his body. Especially his head, says he has some vision issues already, and he has trouble getting on the floor to play with his gf's kid.
-His gf was pretty upset when he was traded to Cleveland, but she wouldn't move there (they joked about how Cleveland sucks)
-Called Incognito one of the craziest men alive... or something similar
-Called Marshawn a mutant, in a good way
-And of course just said he was really unhappy playing football

PS did anyone hear him on last night KJR? I guess Holmgren talked to him on the air?

I wish he had hung in there for the 3 years or whatever it takes to guarantee access to the former player benefits, which I think he now will not get. Oh well, hopefully that won't be an issue for him.

Did he say what he was going to do? One of the most likeable guys ever. Suppose it is a good thing that he realized his own mortality and chose to step away with his health. Perhaps more should take this as an example. Every time I think of all the head trauma cases these days I think of Joe Montana on Saturday night live satirizing his career long collection of concussions. The video for which I might add, has been pulled by NBC!

I didn't catch the bit with Holmgren last night, but listened to most of the interviews earlier - it is really compelling listening - All of it is posted here:

Didn't hear this, but I did listen to most of Moffitt's interview with Softy yesterday. Moffitt may not be one of the greatest Hawks of all time, but he's certainly one of the most personable, funny and compelling Hawks of all time.

I know some people are criticizing Moffitt for walking away from a million dollar paycheck, but that's BS. Life's too short to not do what you love, I admire Moffitt for walking away to pursue what makes him happy.

This. All the best for john! A gutsy decision like that has to be respected.

Holmgren is so great on the radio, if I'm in the middle of my commute and catch it whens he's on I actually get excited. Yes! Score!

People ask how he can turn down a million dollars.

It's funny, but I would say the same thing. I have said it. Hell, I've said I would do almost anything to get a chance to just play on a Practice Squad for what those guys make, just to be able to be paid well to play football.

I spent 6 years in the Marines. Now, I did some crazy things in and out of the Marine Corps. Now it's catching up to me. I have to manage my diet and weight because if I get too heavy I have major joint pains. There are times when it can seriously affect your life.

Listening to some of these guys that have played, they have a hard time getting up in the morning. Guys like Michael Strahan talking about barely being able to tie their shoes because their fingers were so broken up. I take what small pain I have and imagine multiplying it by a factor of 2 or 3. Would a million dollars seriously be enough to compromise your quality of life? At a young age to boot ? Hell, I'm over 40, and it took age to start catching up to all the nagging aches and pains. I'm not saying it's any worse than a normal guy. I can't imagine feeling worse, and at a much younger age.

Good post. I'm 57 and my knees hurt all the time from playing hoops, often on cement or asphalt during the offseason, for like 30 years. Decided to quit playing in my early/mid forties when I found myself taking Tylenol with codeine after (rec league) games to sleep and ease the knee and back pain. Really enjoyed playing the game, but not at that cost. And basketball is NOTHING like football in terms of the toll it takes on your body. I can't imagine really.

As for Moffitt, here's hoping he gets a media gig soon and succeeds wildly.

Yeah, Holmgren feels too good to be true on the radio, like there's no way we're going to be able to have him stick around for that long. I hope so though.

Remember Montana playing for the Chiefs late in his career and holding his head and writhing on the field in pain? Oh my GOD...

I would depend on whether you already got your millions. But that chronic concussion thing--I would never screw around with THAT.

That was awesome! Thanks for the link. If 710 has a brain in their head, they will hire John Moffitt at first light!
