Maybe because they had an "agreement" but hadn't actually signed the paperwork. The team doesn't announce until the ink is drying.

I don't consider being the backup QB or even being on the practice squad as "sitting out." Poor choice of words when we have a veteran QB already designated the starter.
Yeah odd choice of words. It's not like he isn't going to be practicing, studying film, etc. If Milroe doesn't see the field at all this season, it should mean that Darnold is doing well which is a boon for everyone including Milroe.

Yeah, using the phrase “sitting out” infers that he has a choice. His only choice is to get better than Darnold in a hurry.
I also disagree he’ll sit out the whole season. There’s no way we don’t find some strategic ways to use him to keep defenses on their toes.

Is nobody going to question the word "key" in the headline? In what sense is a whim of a draft pick whose ceiling is Taysom Hill (but maybe with a higher interception rate if they actually let him throw) a "key draft pick"?
