Hope is all I wanted this season

This season for me was all about hoping the Hawks do something different in a positive way compared to the last four or five years. I loved Pete, but it was the same old thing year after year, bad defense and excuses. Although at times this season it’s been frustrating to watch, at least it’s providing hope for the future. With Pete, I’d lost all hope.

Here is hoping for more of the same that we have witnessed the last two weeks in our future.

Great point. We wanted to see improvement and we certainly are seeing it. Love the progression of this defense. We send 2 LB's packing and look where we are. This defense is better BECAUSE of those 2 moves, imo.
And sending those two linebackers away is something they didn’t do for the last decade. When Pete Carroll and John Schneider first got here they turned the roster over like crazy to find the right players. If you weren’t performing, you were gone. For some reason, they went away from that and when I say they, it was probably all Pete. You can’t be afraid to make a roster move. If a guy isn’t right, get him out of there. Same for coaches. Seems like this team is finally back to doing that.

I always maintained hope for my team but towards the end of Pete's tenure the cupboard was starting to look very empty and the tendencies obvious. He was an amazingly good people coach but his time was up and new blood was essential to a continuing positive direction for my team. MM is so much more low key as HC than Pete but his style works when the troop are 'in'. They are way 'in' now and the D is start ing to show some legit dominance.

If nothing less than what this season has shown so far is a resurgent D. I have constant thoughts of greatness going forward. If they can finally get the running game going this team could be a huge surprise on O as well. Our ST play has been solid in the kicking game but spotty otherwise that needs positive change.

Watching morning pregame football it is rare to see any talking head giving the Hawks a shot tonight. It's time for our boys to show they are hard to play against and when others come here they are lucky to leave w/o feeling some pain. I have more than hope and am pleased what this season has brought so far.

This is pretty much exactly what was expected and hoped for this year. Expected rough patch while the players get comfortable with Macdonalds defense and made the replacements needed at linebacker. Dodson and Baker were horrible, and they fixed that. It was a long time coming to replace Pete, 10/10 player coach but his defensive scheme as a defensive coach became a 0/10.

Not a trap game by any measure, that'll be the Bears. This is, however, very much a "prove it" game. This is where we prove we can run with the big boys of the league. If we're gonna step up from good/not bad to great, this is a stepping stone to it if we can put it together.

GO HAWKS!!!

People are giving Mac and John way too much credit for the LB cuts. Underperforming players on cheap one-year deals are always vulnerable. Considering there were zero future cap consequences to moving them, a lot of teams would have released them or at least benched them if they couldn't work a trade out. Those are easy moves to make. I'll bet a lot of the people who think cutting cheap underperforming players is a novel concept are also the ones who think Pete invented the idea of competition.

The Ernest Jones trade was awesome though. People are going to be dumbfounded for years of how that guy got traded for peanuts twice in the span of six months.

One by one, the ignore list grows. Regardless, Macdonald and Schneider were brilliant with their "on the fly" in season moves. The trade deadline was brilliantly executed.

Pretty weak to put people who you disagree with on ignore. I wouldnt learn anything if I dismissed everyone who thought differently. However you enjoy this best, I suppose.

We won 9 last yr. I expected with same roster plus some improvements to help fix the issues and hiring a DC Genius, i expected Hawks to win 9+ minimum.

I guess i gave more credit to Mike then others.

I'll never understand this take, but it worked out for you.

I expected nothinhg this season. Team could be world beaters or losers of every game. I didn't care. I just knew the team needed to get away from the purgatory that was Pete Carroll.

I can't see measuring MM with a season record. Whether we win 5, 7, 9 etc., he inherited this team, he didn't build it. I am just thrilled we are moving in the right direction and our defense looks so much better. Good times are ahead at some point. I didn't think we would make the playoffs before the season started, but of course now that we are in it, I really want to get in. Either way, I feel good about the team again.

Great post. I was expecting 8-9 wins. I’m hoping the MM days are ahead … we’ve been different and more intense with the defensive adjustments. Love where we’re going… but like I asked that blue eyed floozie back in ‘98… don’t tease me… we doing this or not???

Honestly, we have lost to every good team we have faced. So this isn’t shocking. Figured us for about a 500 team. Probably where we end up. We just are not there yet. That doesn’t make this debacle vs the pack any less shitty however.
