Just got the message from the seahawks App

This leaves us an empty slot on the practice squad to fill

My guess would be they're trying the Turbin experiment out this week and if that fails they will sign a FB and then send Bates back to the PS.

I'm also guessing they will have a lot more single back sets tomorrow, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as sometimes the running game seems to be a bit more effective when they let Lynch just do his thing.

Yes they did.

My guess is that Bates has been brought up for his special teams work and specifically his blocking contributions.

I think they keep the practice squad spot open for development back Steven Terrell.

I expect to see appearances by tight ends as backfield blockers from time to time.

I hope Bates makes the 46. I'd like to see him play.

0% chance tomorrow of Bates being active.

Actually I think they made this move specifically so they could have him active. He can be used on special teams, an emergency FB and as a 6th WR.

Like Cooper Helfet, Phil Bates has paid his dues, built team chemistry and offers a lot of versatility. Very important attributes for a team working at reaffirming it's identity.

Coleman was one of the 7 ruled out. Bringing up Bates and putting Coleman on IR means there will be an odd man out. I'd guess it would be McDonald.

I was excited about Bates with all the off-season hype, but then I watched him play in preseason.

I thought he played well in preseason. He can take a hard hit that's for sure. He caught a TD too, if I recall. The end-around playcalls to him were kinda silly though.

He could be considered depth there too, but Pete said that PRich and ADB will have return duties
