That's remarkable. He's definitely putting in the work this offseason. Here are the numbers for the team so far. I've not seen this type of stuff posted on the wall before (maybe I missed it?), but I love the emphasis/accountability on speed training...
It depends on how far somebody wants to come up. I agree, it feels like a lot of these first round trade downs result in thirds in general and not the assumed seconds. I think I’d just prefer to take a stud at #16 instead of the basket-of-players approach.
For sure. I've been wanting to draft a QB (in any early round really) for years. This team has been negligent in that regard. I think that's one of the differences you're going to see going forward. JS is going to start using draft capital (already has) on QBs.
To your point, Nix could very well turn out to be the best of the bunch. But there's a good chance that he and Penix slip into the second, then get quickly picked up the next day (like Levis). At the same time, Minnesota and Denver are starved for a young QB to sell to their fanbases, so...
I think that JS is going to be much more aggressive drafting QBs. It's very possible that McCarthy/Penix/Nix are there at #16. QB's tend to be equal parts of being over-drafted, then free-falling. He'll have a decision to make depending on what OL are there and/or he gets an offer to move down...
It'd be cool to see. I have not an ounce of ill will against that franchise. That fanbase never won a SB, had their team stolen from them years ago (and that cool uniform), and hasn't had much sustained success since they got a team back.
I think the one-year free agent strategy provides flexibility and capital. You either re-sign the player if they work out, receive a comp pick because they worked out and you didn't want to pay, or you cut bait.
I feel like this is Year #1 of JS. All previous years were JS-PC. He now has the conventional GM role for the first time and hired a coach that he's obviously very excited about. His moves so far appear to reflect a GM "medium/long-term lens" vs. a coach "I need to win this year" lens. I'm...
I don't see where it's that far off or a sleight of Seattle's offseason. There are 14 teams on the positive side of that ledger, meaning there are 18 on the other side that he's thinking got worse. For us, this offseason is about repairing the damaged salary cap and signing some players to fill...
It's as if everybody just ignores the second half of that tweet. "Sam is a great young player, and he’s got a really bright future that we believe in." A really bright future as a backup? Yes, Geno is the designated starter going into training camp and further into Week #1. Doesn't mean that's...
He's played for ONE year. He learned a new offense that year to boot (Eric Bieniemy hired in Feb 2023). Trevor Lawrence was the consensus #1 overall QB three years ago, and he went for 3641 (12 tds/17 ints) in his rookie year, and 4016 (21 tds/14 ints) last year. Most (if not all) of these...
