    Poll: Leonard Williams trade

You say "bashing". I say critiquing.

    Poll: Leonard Williams trade

This wasn't a standard move that didn't work out. This was one that was obviously idiotic from the moment it happened. Good teams don't make those moves. Teams like the Jets do, but even they fleeced us with Adams.

    Poll: Leonard Williams trade

I don't see it as whining to voice one's frustrations on a fan site. We're here to comment on the good, the bad and the ugly. That trade was worse than ugly, incredibly stupid. Anyone with their eyes open could have seen it was a desperation move. Honestly, I thought Pete should have been...

    Poll: Leonard Williams trade

We also got DK and Mafe in the second round. They don't all turn out bad. The best teams don't make bone headed moves like this. The best teams take smart risks, paying attention to value. The Hawks under Carroll were not such a team. They signed an amazing group in the early years and then...

    Poll: Leonard Williams trade

We disagree. Just as those who don't think Geno is a particularly good QB aren't "haters". I care about my team. I care about stupid moves. It's frustrating to lose a second rounder, particularly this year when there's so much value. I see it as Exhibit A in why it was long past time for Carroll...

    Poll: Leonard Williams trade

When I was a baseball fan, sometimes trades were paused to see if a contract extension could be worked out with the new team. If so, the deal went through. We don't really see that in football but I think we should. Otherwise, sunk costs give the player a perceived advantage and teams sign bad...

    Poll: Leonard Williams trade

I'm with you right until "I don't care what it takes, just get him". That's the kind of thinking that got us the Adams deal. The draft picks are gone. Nothing can get them back. Now it makes sense to sign him if we can get it done at a reasonable number. Otherwise, it's smart to let him walk...

    Geno Restructure?

I don't think it's super likely either. My sense is Schneider and Macdonald would like to cut a deal but other teams don't value Geno highly enough to make what Schneider would consider an adequate offer. So we probably roll with Geno for another year. Perhaps Lock too.

Oh, I don't know. The older I get, the less you-know-what's I have to give. :0)

    Geno Restructure?

I'm curious what you're referring to as negativity? The idea that Geno may get traded? Those who say it won't happen remind me of those who said Russ wouldn't get traded, Pete wouldn't get fired, etc. I'm happy with the recent changes. I'm excited for next year. I'm alright with Geno coming...

Macdonald might not be better. But we weren't going anywhere with Pete. If you don't try, there's no chance of success.

What are you responding to? What have us old guys stopped caring about?

Good points. I bond with each of my sons through football. Unfortunately, one is a 49er fans so I am too (throwing up a bit in my mouth). The other is only 9, so we're completely on the same page (Hawks and Dawgs -- he likes to pretend he's a real dawg). The little guy also knows way more than...

Analyze this quote from Mike MacDonald

That's my point. He didn't really say anything, which is unusual when you've got last year's starter and you've just picked up his contract for $23M, and the other guy, who you also mention each time, was his backup and isn't even signed. There's a certain dissonance. The standard answer is that...

Analyze this quote from Mike MacDonald

Macdonald's comments have been very similar to Schneider's. Neither talks about Geno as the obvious starter. They've been completely non-committal, which is weird given that they picked up his option. My guess is they thought he had trade value and then found out he doesn't. But who knows...

Analyze this quote from Mike MacDonald

I think it's an unusual and surprising answer. One guy is under contract for quite a bit so a standard answer would be "We look forward to having Geno in camp . . ." The other is a free agent so a standard answer would be "We hope to resign Drew . . ." I don't there's a clear message. It's just...

I appreciate your point about how our passions drive us. I see people get passionate about different things. We're a weird clique, those of us who can get worked up about a game. I know some very dedicated people who get worked up about issues with big social implications. I get a bit worked up...

Will try to find that Larry David piece. He was so funny in his deeply cynical way. Perfect for the "90s. Perfect for any time since the "70s really. Our world since Vietnam and Watergate woke America up to things we may have preferred not to see or fathom. I don't want to stray into politics so...

Yes, Bobby deserves his due. He's the other one who could get to the HOF. Really, there were a bunch of valuable parts. KJ could really sniff out screens. I loved Michael Bennett. But the core of it had to be the big three. Or big four if you prefer.

That defense was special. I really enjoyed it. Kam, Earl and Sherm were all so special. Put them together on the same team and the result was more than the sum of the parts, as each had a major persecution complex and they'd egg each other on. The result was dynamic and explosive and violent and...
