    Punt Returning Options?

He sure as hell can. He's often the first guy down on our punting team, and has downed many a punt on a single-digit yard line for us. As to whether or not he can hang on to the ball in the face of would-be tacklers, I dunno. But he can track and catch the ball fer sure.

Is Miles Austin an option instead of Tate?

I'd rather pay Tate an extra $1M a year than have "Smiles" Austin on our team.

Tarvaris Jackson wants to stay in Seattle

Except that I'm pretty sure Pete has said that QB is the one position where there is to be no #1 competition this year. TJack is in fact, competing, just for the #2 position.

Tarvaris Jackson wants to stay in Seattle

Unless your #2 is the heir apparent, it makes sense to have him be a solid veteran guy who doesn't eat up cap space and can win a game or two if necessary. The adjective "workmanlike" applies to TJack, and that's not a bad thing. You need guys like that. One definition is: "satisfactory but...

NFC West Champs, 6th time in 10 years

AND ... the first SB winner from the NFC West in the last 10 years!

    Pete's failed challenge: Question....

That's pretty conclusive. I thought at the time (in real-time) that he (Wilson) had it just because he's so savvy about that sort of thing, and it appears I was right. I don't understand how they didn't overturn that on replay. Weird. Pete had it right, but so it goes.

Denver Broncos Break down from a Pats Fan

Bump to "49ers" for getting it exactly right. And I agree that had SF made it, the result would have been similarly lopsided. The details would have differed, but the result would have been the same: NFC West >> AFC. (Mathematically, ">>" means "much greater than".) I talked to a casual...

Looks like we shouldn't even show up on Superbowl Sunday....

Yup, that pretty well establishes Chadiha as an idiot. His argument in that article comes down to: look at all the other college coaches who failed in the NFL. Ergo, Pete will fail. And though we've heard less of it lately, the "rah-rah" criticism is a complete failure to understand Pete. He's...

    The Golden Truth Part 2

Dude, it's against forum rules to show respect to 49er fans.

    Official quote from saints forums

As frustrating as the game was, we had a lot of breaks go against us ... the shoulda-been Saints fumble; several shoulda-been interceptions (one of which led to a huge gain for them). To overcome those and still win -- hey, I'll take it.

    Bill Leavy??

I have no issues whatsoever with the officiating this game. The calls that were made were legit (except for maybe the Chancellor hit, but that's just reality in the NFL now) and the replay calls seemed correct. I, for one, am willing to forgive and forget. Leavy's crew did a nice job this game.

    My concerns for this game

Honestly, officiating is the biggest obstacle to our playoff and Super Bowl dreams at present. I think we play right at the edge of the rules. Chippy refs ( * cough* Mike Carey * cough * ) scare me more than chippy '9ers. If the refs hang onto their yellow hankies, I think we win the physical...

    NFCCG

Carolina is actually built very much like the 'Hawks. I fear them. I don't fear the 49ers, especially if we're at home. The Saints ... well, we'll see soon enough.

Win Every Home Game and Seahawks are in the SB

Yeah, this was brought up a while ago, but it does frighten me to think of 'Hawks vs. Broncos in the Super Bowl. There would be a 15-yard penalty every time we got within two yards of Peyton. I don't know if my heart can take another SBXL type game. I would probably wreck my TV, and I really...

Why this year is so much more fun than 2005 or 1983/4

I felt great about our chances in '05. Our offense was dominant (we scored on our opening series some absurd percentage of the time), and our defense was good enough. This year it's a bit of the opposite -- our defense is dominant, and our offense is "good enough". But it felt like the '05...

Will the Monday Night game help the Saints?

Agreed. I would rather play the Saints in the playoffs than Carolina. Of course, playing Carolina in the NFCCG would be a repeat of '05 where we ... shut ... them ... down. Go Hawks!

    Backhand flip TD

Yup. Reminded me of that game in '06 [ ? ] where Favre did something very similar to the Hawks to make something of nothing. Frustrating to the max. I'm glad that the crazy flip-pass-guy is on our side now.

    Understandable, given the spelling.
