Russell Wilson's contract pushed to next year?

Actually, we agree in principle. I am arguing against the idea that the team can franchise him for '16 and '17 and he has no recourse ("no leverage"). I frequently agree with what you are saying, just not the nastiness you exhibit in the way you say it...though I admit that doesn't seem at all...

Russell Wilson's contract pushed to next year?

RW will not hold out in '15...he is under contract and has stated that he will play it out for $1.5M. If franchised in '16, I would not bet against him holding out up to mid-season if necessary...he will not have committed to play and in 1/2 season would still make 8-10 times what he will make...

Russell Wilson's contract pushed to next year?

"Up a bit" is a "bit" of an understatement. The year 2 tag is 120% of the year 1 tag. The year 3 tag is 144% of the year 2 tag. Taking a $20M year 1 tag (low, but good for an example) year 2 would be $24M and year 3 would be $34.56M.

where is the thread about the agents stupid 16 pager

If forced to play out '15 for $1.5M, I would be really surprised if RW took that number. But I guess none of us will know until the '16 season starts or a deal is signed before then.

where is the thread about the agents stupid 16 pager

Various "cap experts" (except on this board) estimate next year's cap to be anywhere from $18.5 to $26M. Apparently, if no current deals are renegotiated for cap relief, and based on projected salaries of QBs as they are currently scheduled, the number would be that $26M. However, some of the...

Russell Wilson and the 3 year, $45.5 million baseline

I think most here prefer the "best case scenario"...no new big contracts and all the guys with monster cap numbers next year will restructure some of it away. In al likelihood, it will be somewhere about in the middle of the numbers.

I think I must have missed the publication of this one. Might you give some specifics?

JG will be a red zone machine

I am one of the few around here who believe that Bevell gets a bad rap...I figure this season will prove whether I am wrong.

Wilson #5 Ranking the Top 50 Quarterbacks from 2014

I have already figured out that it is a waste of time to address this one special group. If a group of things that RW does very well are listed, they will pick one and say "that doesn't make him a 'elite' QB". The idea of addressing the totality is just too foreign. Obviously, his ability to...

Wilson #5 Ranking the Top 50 Quarterbacks from 2014

Excuse me if I am wrong, but wasn't that play shown in the context of arguing that 4/5 in mobility was ludicrous? I wasn't aware it was used as evidence that he was a top 5 overall QB...I believe there are other factors that do so and obviously you do not, but let's not misrepresent what others...

Russell Wilson and the 3 year, $45.5 million baseline

RW holding out while he still had a signed contract covering that time is something I would really have to see to believe...and then I would have doubts I think.

Russell Wilson and the 3 year, $45.5 million baseline

You're really taking that guy seriously? Strikes me he doesn't really have the well being of the 'Hawks at heart. Well...first reports on the Newton deal say $103M for 5 years worth $30M paid first year (incl sb) and a total of $67M guarantee. Doesn't really sound out of line for RW...

Fahey says Wilson, not Revis, took Baldwin out of Super Bowl

It appears to me that $100M for 5 years with a decent guarantee would be the reasonable place to go... Unfortunately, the common rumor is that the 'Hawks are saying "Give us a last year of that slotted 75th pick $1.5M and then you can have $80M for 4 years"...that seems to me disrespect after...

Russell Wilson and the 3 year, $45.5 million baseline

Seems to have encouraged at least 2 people to think...I'm not used to treatment much better than that. I actually forgot to register for the popularity contest. I really was/am looking for an answer, but encouraging thought works too as an alternate outcome. I'm a RW fan...I was a 'Hawks fan...

Russell Wilson and the 3 year, $45.5 million baseline

I have a question that relates to your last paragraph. Does anyone know whether signing him to an extension after June 1 would delay the first signing bonus amortization year until the '16 season while still paying it upon signing? If so, that would strike me as a way to avoid any additional cap...

Oh My GAWD !!!! Russell tweets, whatever does he mean?

I'm not sure who said anything about $120M for 4 years...but they might take a shot at $80M over 4 years (or $100M for 5 since a SB can be amortized over a max of 5) starting now and structured with a hefty signing bonus that would keep the salary and cap hit low the first few years. That would...

Rumor: RW asking to be the highest paid player in history

If the stories and numbers coming out are even near true, it would appear that PC/JS just don't feel he is worth it. If they cannot structure a contract that would pay him the $20M (not the highest pay of any QB) that he reportedly wants and that would have better cap consequences (5 year...

Rumor: RW asking to be the highest paid player in history

Except that "$10M" (or whatever signing bonus is included) is part of the $80M....so that amount will come off the "$20M per year for 4 years", making them less and lowering the average for the 5 yrs to $16.3M. Otherwise, he plays out his deal and sees what the best offer he gets is...probably...
