    NBA returning to Seattle?

Heh, sorry 'bout that - I get off on rants sometimes and get waaaay to wordy .... Actually, I don't think Hansen needs to surrender at all - in fact, I think the NBA ****** up, tipped their hand AND pissed off the wrong guys. I think Hansen still has major leverage here Stern gets away...

    NBA returning to Seattle?

Huh? The NBA is exploding with foreign players right now, and the talent pool is constantly increasing. The biggest change recently has been the draft rules - now it's more common for teams to draft directly from the international ranks. In the 2011 Draft, 5 of the top 7 picks were foreign guys...

    NBA returning to Seattle?

Would you rather have someone loan you $10, or would you rather have someone give you $5? That's the heart of the issue here, and the NBA has made it clear which they'd rather have. They know once they've tapped the public $$ vein, they can keep feeding as long as they want - and it's free $$$...

    NBA returning to Seattle?

I've been so bitter about the Sonics my interest in the NBA just evaporated. I was house-sitting a friend's condo down in Lower Queen Anne this Winter and had to walk by the Key every frickin' day ... damn that hurt. Started watching some of the playoffs this year and realized I had no clue...

    NBA returning to Seattle?

I really don't know if this is the case. I checked Wikipedia, and was surprised to learn that the majority of NHL teams don't share an arena with the NBA - New Jersey, the Islanders, Buffalo, Pittsburg, Carolina, Tampa, the Panthers, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, Phoenix, San Jose, Anaheim and...

    NBA returning to Seattle?

Because up until the mid/late 90's those international players didn't exist and NBA teams didn't bother looking for them. The international reach of the game has changed significantly in the last 20 years. One main reason is NBA marketing - starting with the Dream Team of the 90's Olympics. The...

    NBA returning to Seattle?

Agreed. BTW: there is a lot of really good discussion in the comments on that article (a lot of it just confirming what we already suspect) The NBA purposely held the relocation vote first, figuring that not being able to move the team would force Hansen to voluntarily withdraw his offer...

    NBA returning to Seattle?

IMO, the only thing going on behind the scenes is that Stern & the majority of NBA owners simply value the public subsidies above all else. http://www.fieldofschemes.com/2013/04/30/5041/sacramento-wins-kings-back-from-seattle-now-just-has-to-figure-out-how-to-pay-for-them/

    NBA returning to Seattle?

Still thinking about this whole mess this morning and was listening to Brock & Danny on 710 .... Brock brought up a great point that I hadn't considered: Despite Seattle's offer being superior in every way, it lacks one MAJOR aspect that Sacto promises to deliver - $250M in public subsidy...

So NBA player Jason Collins is gay.

I guess the bright side is that this thread has only caused 2 bigots to pop their heads up ... they'll always be there, and there's no way to reason with them or change their minds: the prejudices and misinformation are just too ingrained ... but the numbers are dwindling. Society evolves...

    NBA returning to Seattle?

++++1 Here's the dirty truth - ALL of the pro sports leagues are cartels/monopolies that operate in violation of anti-trust laws. The only reason they haven't blown up is because 99% of the disputes are between owners & players - both of whom have a vested interest in keeping the monopoly alive...

    NBA returning to Seattle?

Valid points, BUT ... the only reason this Sacto deal came together is because of the pressure from the Hansen sale and immediate threat of relocation. Without that hanging over their heads, there's no way Sacto puts together the ownership group, price and arena deal they've scrambled together...

So NBA player Jason Collins is gay.

Great, that's why I'm taking your advice and adding you to my ignore list. It's a sad fact that small-minded bigots like you will always exist, but hopefully in another 10 years or so society will have evolved and left you as the small fringe minority you deserve to be.

    NBA returning to Seattle?

I'm not giving up until Hansen/Balmer gives up. Bennett & Stern be damned, I still refuse to believe that the majority of NBA owners are too stupid to turn away this Seattle opportunity and that they are still that beholden to Stern's BS when he's a lame duck commish. What I think Stern & the...

    NBA returning to Seattle?

Words can't express how disappointed and pissed off I am right now. But before I completely throw in the towel I want to hear from Hansen/Ballmer and see if something else shakes out from the BOG meeting. On Hansen's side, there's just too much work & investment already made for him to let...

John Schneider on Tim Tebow interest...

1.) The report says we "inquired" about Tebow, not that we "offered picks" 2.) NEWS FLASH: John Schnieder "inquires" about players all the time -it's his job. That's what any good GM does: keep track of which players might be available and what the price will be. I'm sure Schnieder probably...

Preseason death match winner,Jerrod Johnson or Brady Quinn?

I look at the Quinn signing the same way I looked at the team picking up Barrett Ruud as a camp MLB last year - it's a position where the mental side of things is almost important as the physical side of things, so in case one of the young guys is overwhelmed & can't pick it up, you have a vet...

OLB? Malcolm Smith? What is the plan

Can't find anything in writing, but I did hear some talk about him on the radio (I think it was Danny O'Neil or some other insider on 710) Basically they said that Toomer was definitely in their plans, had made a lot of progress and gotten positive reviews from the coaches. Personally, I'm not...

At 123 Seattle selects: Chris harper, WR KS

I can also see where the "faster Boldin" comps come from, given his physicality - but IMO he doesn't have quite the hands yet (Boldin was a beast in that regard) The one comp that I saw that makes a ton of sense to me (because they have similar speed & it's another WR Schnieder drafter) ...
