But it’s not true. If Geno signs for let’s say $40 million per year then you still had that $13 million hanging around. So there’s still a $7 million per year difference. The thing with dead money is it’s already paid out. Geno was going to get an extension but wanted more than we got Darnold...
It’s crazy to me that DK gets a 4 year extension worth $132 million while our new starting qb is getting 3 years $100.5 million.
$33 million avg for a WR 1
$33.5 million for a QB1
We were up against a cap and guys were asking for crazy money.
Get back to me later. Right now I don’t think we are as good as last year. Definitely not any better.
We need to see what we are doing on the OL and now at WR before I’ll be able to get excited.
This is not how the cap works. The dead money is money that Geno already received prior to trading him. This has absolutely nothing to do with any contracts moving forward. Even if Geno signed an extension that money was on our books. Even without that money Geno was reportedly looking for...
This is what I’m thinking as well. We need to fix the middle of the offensive line and have a backup plan at right tackle as I worry about injuries there. If the line is really good then we can have a run game good enough to offset the loss of talent at WR this year.
We have both draft picks and cap space so we have options here. Who can we target through free agency and the draft to make our OL good enough to give our QB and RBs some room to flourish?
If people got it they wouldn’t say he was signed. There’s a difference. If it’s not corrected then people continue to misunderstand how it works. Discussing how it works is part of what we do here. If you font want to discuss it then stop discussing it
Yup. No matter if you were pro Geno or anti Geno he wanted to leave or get big money to stay. We need the cap money to get our line fixed. This deal allows for that.
NFL network reporting that the deal gives Darnold $37.5 million in year one. I assume most of that is going to be a signing bonus that spreads the cap out. I’d guess the total cap of this contract will be somewhere in the $15-$18 million dollar range. Leaving a net of $13-$16 million in extra...
Not saying he will but he still has not signed. We cannot sign talk about him as if he’s signing here but those reporting he has signed are posting things that just aren’t factual. Let’s keep it factual
Don’t disagree. I don’t really think there is anything really special available at qb right now. I’d say they are likely fairly even and Geno wanted a big raise.
There is still a difference between agreeing today and signing. We cannot sign him before Wednesday. Sore most stick with their deals but it’s happened before where a player agrees during the tampering period then ends up signing a different offer on the day.
Can’t officially sign yet. Only agreed to a deal. Can’t sign until Wednesday and let’s not forget until it’s signed players are still technically free to hear other offers. It doesn’t happen often but has happened where a player changes his mind between agreement and signing.
