    Ahhhhhhhhh…..

That three-game stretch was frustrating but had many caveats. Detroit is a veteran team and probably the NFC favorite. We were basically missing our starting DL, which is one of the team's important strengths. The team laid a turd against the NYG, which is going to happen with a young team with...

Prime Time on Prime vs Niners

I don't know. This game has "who knows?" written all over it. Division games are weird. Thursday night games are weird. The 49ers are struggling and in their downward cycle. The Seahawks are struggling and in their upward cycle. No result will truly surprise me.

We're not competitors this year and that is OKAY

I agree with you. That's why I didn't get overly-excited about the 3-0 start and what it meant for this year. Macdonald's building a program. That's going to take time. Carroll started out with two 7-9 seasons. It's part of the process.

    MATT HASSELBECK

When Krieg was ‘on’, he was magic. Like best in the league. But when he was ‘off’, ehhhh… It was a coin flip each week on which Krieg you were getting.

    Great article on coach

I love our new culture. The next few years are going to be fun again!

    49ers @ Rams in Week 3

We watched this same story arc with our defense over the years. The talent level degrades over time, the shuffling defensive coordinators are a shadow of what was, the scheme gets dated and doesn't adapt.

    For real?

Yes, the team is currently missing a signature win over a quality opponent. But in any event, that involves the "here and now". There will be bumps along the way this year (maybe Detroit?), but it's all part of the growth process. I'm more pumped about the multi-year journey we're about to go on.

    Are the Seahawks for real?

I definitely think Macdonald's "program" is for real. If Schneider keeps hitting in the first/second rounds to build out the core, we're in for some great years ahead.

POLL: Geno Is Our Franchise QB

Jim McMahon carved out a long career and was an iconic QB on an iconic team. It was a different era, but his actual stats barely rise to the level of mediocre (and that's being generous). He only started 97 games, threw for 18K yards, 100 TDs, and 90 INTs. He passed for double-digit TDs five...

POLL: Geno Is Our Franchise QB

To that end, Howell is in a uniquely good spot. He sat a year, had some very nice success in his second year to go along with the ints/sacks, and now gets to sit back and watch the game in his third year. He’s going to benefit from all that and be on a NFL roster for the foreseeable future.

POLL: Geno Is Our Franchise QB

That's a big part of this. He's our guy this year and next. And he can potentially be great over that stretch and even have playoff success (particularly if this defense comes together and is consistent). But if he continues playing high-level ball into his late 30's, he will be a big exception...

    Geno: "Nearly Perfect"

That's also an intriguing stat line when it comes to Grubb's offense. I hope Macdonald has a coach below him absorbing all this (including how to make adjustments, game plan the other team's weaknesses, etc.)

POLL: Geno Is Our Franchise QB

You got to think that Smith is going to be in the league longer than Wilson at this point. I don't think anybody would have predicted that a few years ago. Smith's still a starting QB for that matter...

POLL: Geno Is Our Franchise QB

No, I understand. I appreciate that. I'm just saying there's a common fallacy across athletics that because Player A (who by default is a huge exception compared to his peers) made it to such-and-such age, then we can reasonably expect that Player B has a chance to as well. Take Wilson who was...

POLL: Geno Is Our Franchise QB

I agree, but there's no basis to put Smith in their category.

POLL: Geno Is Our Franchise QB

Those are HoF QB's and the exceptions to the rule. And even at that, their physical performance wasn't the same in their late 30's.

    Murphy too for that matter.

POLL: Geno Is Our Franchise QB

It's this in a nutshell. I think he's going to have a very good (and potentially great) year with Grubb. This is going to be a really fun year under his leadership. Next year too. But he's turning 34 and potentially positioning for the type of contract you don't want to give a guy in his late...

'Power' Rankings. Still sleeping on us

Yep, we still need a "signature win" to really vault up the rankings, and they have that opportunity by going into Detroit on MNF. And agreed on San Fran. It's just not credible to have them at #2 at this point. They're not the same team they were last year (particularly since you have to start...

Wow!! Hawks favored by -6.5 vs Fins

Really tough game for them. They have to be emotionally deflated knowing their year is trashed, then have to make the longest flight (non-international) possible for an NFL game. Not to mention who knows what their QB plan is.
