I get it from a player's point of view financially re splitting carries. Yes it keeps them fresh but it reduces their numbers which does not help their leverage come contract time.....which it was in his case. The other option for a team I guess is to run the crap out of a guy in his contract year and then let him walk after he potentially wears down (Demarco Murray was never the same after his big year in Dallas).

The Seattle situation worked out for both parties. Obviously the team won the Super Bowl. And for Walker, being fresh and having his biggest games on the biggest spotlight added to his pay day. In a different scenario where the Hawks don't have the playoff success, he doesn't get anywhere near what he got as an FA

Sure but he split carries.....and got "less TD's due to Charbs" and still got a massive contract

So maybe not so much to complain about after all? Perhaps he should be grateful he was fresh enough to shine when all eyes were on him?

:)

The only reason K9 was effective as he was came as a result of Charbs really taking on a heavy workload and the Oline effectiveness, the guy is explosive as all get out but no way he makes it past week 8 without the splits. I like him just fine but the ROI isn't there when everyone knows Seattle can turn a decent RB into a workhorse with this young line.

I won't really miss him.

What's important to any NFL player on their first contract:
  1. Fame and stats, often go together. Without these two, you can't get that BIG second contract. A contract that will set you up for the rest of your life.
  2. Opportunities, coaching, supporting cast, the foundation for (1)
Did Walker get these?

Fame, yes, Super Bowl MVP. But it took an injury to Chab or an act of God for that to happen. Allowing Walker to carry the team certainly wasn't in Schneider or Macdonald's game plan before Chab's injury.
Stats, no, not when two back shared workloads.
Opportunities, so so,
Supporting cast, only last season,

If Charb didn't get hurt, Walker wouldn't get his MVP, which led to his big contract.

K9 is an excellent back who just doesn't fit the scheme well. Got a SB win, SB MVP, and a big contract from a SB contender. They also need cash to pay JSN, Witherspoon soon, and probably a big contract to Darnold. Paying a RB top tier money with a lot of dudes getting big money doesn't make sense when you can draft a guy every couple years.

I think it was pretty clear that he wouldn't be getting a second contract (at least a top RB contract) when he was splitting carries with a less effective but more 'scheme friendly' RB in ZC. JS knows running back shelf life is limited and they wanted to keep both guys fresh. Price is going to be in the exact same scenario and very likely ZC won't be getting a 2nd contract either.

No knock on anyone but, has any past team truly been better after winning a SuperBowl?

I think we are. And that my fellow netizens, is crazy.

Hope you’re ready for a repeat!
Originally , I was hopeful of not too big of a drop-off but getting better is ok too

K9 is a JAG. His vision was mediocre, too much dancing in the backfield that stalled drives.

It’s great that he turned it on when it counted most, but it’s literally only because he had fresh legs after splitting carries with Charbs all season, and he has the audacity to act childish and pout about that? Get real.

Looks like K9 will get his big chance Sept 14 in the first MNF game of the season. Bronco's vs Chiefs, site location announced Thursday.
