Will the Mariners / MLB move their start time to afternoon? Texas is still in town for a Thursday afternoon. I imagine they have to leave town after that game so maybe a Tuesday double header?

Nothing in the announcement says it will be a home game.

MLB often plays day games on Wednesdays, with Thurs as a travel day. Don't have the MLB schedule in front of me, but that could work.

Just looked at the schedule. There is no off day for the Texans, but the game could easily be shifted to 1pm. Would still be tight with a night NFL game, but it could be done.

I’ll see it on tv no matter where it’s played but I’ve been wondering if they might not get a home game. Having both the mariners and Sounders at home is a lot to juggle out

I think in a "normal" year, we would have had the season opener on a Thursday and the Rams Niners overseas would have been the Friday game. However, apparently there is something preventing the Friday night week 1 game this year. Something having to do with gambling. Whatever. I'm just glad we host the opener, as it should be. Bring on the Chiefs, Bears, or Cowgirls.

Time zones. Australia is one day ahead because of the International Date Line. They'll fly out on Wednesday, maybe Tuesday here. Arrive for a Friday night game, which is Thursday here.

OK. I did a little research and found this. It's a "broadcasting" thing, not a "gambling" thing:

Under the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961, the NFL isn't allowed to televise any games on Friday or Saturday from the second weekend in September through the second weekend in December (Those two days have been earmarked for high school and college football). This is why you don't see any Saturday games on the NFL schedule until late in the season.

The NFL always kicks off after Labor Day, which is why there's an issue this year. The first Friday on the NFL calendar is Friday, Sept. 11, but that will be the second Friday in September and the league isn't allowed to play on that day.

The NFL can schedule a Friday (or Saturday game) during the FIRST weekend of September and that option is available when Labor Day falls on Sept. 1, 2 or 3, which happened in both 2024 and 2025. After this year, the holiday won't fall on one of those three dates again until 2029, so that will likely be the next time we see a Friday game in Week 1.

Why do we care if the inaugural 2026 kickoff game hosted by us is a Wednesday instead of a Thursday? Seems much ado about nothing personally. I am sure there are logistics involved, not a true slight by the NFL. Call me out if you think my take is off, that’s totally fine but to me personally? When it comes to the game being played on Wednesday or Thursday…

I. Do. Not. Care.

Gonna be "logisitical" problems with the Mariners and the Seahawks playing a game on the same day. The M's coule easily play at 1 pm, of course, and hope they don't go extra innings. Will still be a mess with M's fans trying to get out and Hawks fans trying to get in...at rush hour on a work day. ;)
