Rams abandon attempt at stupid rule change

So much for that stupid-as-fk idea. 🤨

The nutty two-point play that forged a fourth-quarter tie in the Week 16 game between the Seahawks and the Rams resulted in a pair of proposed rules changes from the Rams last month.

Those proposals now have been withdrawn.

One focused on the unusual mechanics of the play. A backward pass thrown by Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold was deflected past the line of scrimmage, making it a live ball that could be recovered by Seattle running back Zach Charbonnet for a touchdown. The Rams wanted such situations to be treated like a fumble in certain situations (fourth down, within the final two minutes of each half, during a try), which would have in that specific circumstance wiped out the two points.

The Rams also proposed a 40-second limit for the initiation of replay review, given that 100 seconds passed between the recovery of the loose ball by Charbonnet and the announcement by referee Brad Allen that the play would be reviewed. As PFT reported last month, the league became aware of the possibility that the ruling on the field of an incomplete forward pass should be reviewed after Prime Video rules analyst Terry McAulay called NFL rules analyst Walt Anderson.

The proposals likely would have had a hard time getting to 24 votes, which could be the most obvious explanation for the withdrawal. Either way — and despite the impact of the play on the game and, potentially, the outcome of the season — it’s not something that will happen very often. And the coaching point remains clear: If there’s a loose ball in the playing field, pick it up.

It was a dumb idea in the first place for McVag to even attempt as it showed that this was more about him and the Rams being Sore f'n Losers than anything else.

Maybe next time don't have your kicker miss a chip-shot FG...

Or maybe get a stop in OT....

Losers.

Yeah, seems unlikely the proposals would go anywhere with the committee. 🤷‍♂️

They knew it would never get passed. It was just a lame attempt at trying to discredit our championship. They are sore losers.

I can only imagine what the reaction was like when McVay and the Rams brought this to the committee. I believe it may have been something like this -

Im sure the 49ers could 1 up the Rams if they wanted, Seahawks have a better differential in their stadium then they do, we get to paint the town Blue and Green, have our Team name painted in thier end zones, Win the world championship on their field and party like it's 1999 in their town after.

Go ahead and whine Rams, 49ers showing way more class, and it was a legal play your bitching about.200 had to shower after that...........

It only took them 3 months to realize they could have picked up the ball themselves. That's faster than some of their fans at least.

Let's make pass interference illegal for the Rams, they can hit the receiver 2 seconds before the ball arrives and nothing called.

So, no rule change necessary is what you're saying? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

And as SOON as 2035 - the salary cap should mostly apply to them as well!

They weren't changing a rule that's been around forever, just like the
Packers complained about "Fail Mary", another rule that also has been
around forever.
Maybe they need rules education?

Yep. They had to bring it up one more time to sort of reiterate their personal feelings right before publicly dropping the issue all together. As if that one play hindered their shot at a ring. McVay lost and then blamed the officials for actually making the right call and getting it right for a change. Very odd behavior unless he’s actually a bit of a narcissist.

This nonsense is for LA fans who claim their entire 2025 season was ruined by one play that ultimately was the proper call and not one that we will ever likely see again.

It wasn't the missed kick.
It wasn't multiple drives that ended with 0 points
It wasn't allowing Seattle to drive the length of the field and cap a TD with another 2 pointer
It wasn't the loss to Carolina.

Nope, it was a 2 point swing with a bunch of time remaining in the game, must have rule change to justify Seattle Salt Mining LLC
