I did. I thought he was on a fine trajectory before his shoulder injury last season. I don't think Geno is the long-term answer, but I'm glad I was wrong when I thought we should have made a move for Baker. He looks ruined.

I think he "was" a good QB. But he also had a highly talented team around him.

You have to give Geno his due. Hrs been elite.

Biggest problem with Mayfield is that he has trouble dropping back and throwing over his OL when lined up under center.

Pete and Waldron are the QB whisperers! They would have made Mayfield great again!

Isn't it interesting, is it possible that Pete and John do actually know more that the fans posting on the forum do? Perhaps that is why they are working their weekend job and the rest of us are sitting home watching TV...
Of course they do, that also does not make them above reproach. Technically even some of the worst coaches know more about the game than we fans do. JS and Carroll have had some extremely questionable personnel decisions over the years and they deserve to be put on blast for that.

In the case of Mayfield, you also have to understand that he didn't get really get any training camp or much in the way of reps underneath his belt. The trade was okay'd at the end of August. That means the guy had to come in there with receivers he has never threw to and a playbook that is completely foreign to him. He got what? A week or two to get his legs beneath him before the season started? Who knows if arm is even holding up as well.

The thing about the NFL, is depending on the situation players can look completely different. Quite frankly, Mayfield is just a Russ clone. He had the same weaknesses on the Browns that Russ had here. in fact their statlines over the last year and a half or so were actually fairly similar.

In the end I think that rolling with Lock and Geno was the right move.

Rhule is not that good of a HC IMO. Panthers do have talent on offense and they did improve the OL in the off season. But Mayfield simply doesn't look like a fit with that offense so far. Mayfield might improve down the line during mid season but the problem is that Rhule has a quick leash with QBs.
