You can't until the 4th season is over, I believe.

You can extend between the third and fourth year, just like they did DK.

It’s one of the benefits of drafting a player, you can lock him down before anyone else has a chance to talk with him.

It’s going to take around a $37.5-$38 mil per year of new money, giving him a cap hit at or near $30 million APY.

So humble too…gives “all the credit to my teammates” and “loves Seattle” when asked about his success and being here. Just a really good dude in addition to being a phenomenal WR. Glad he’s on our team

JS, I know business is business but please don't disrespect JSN with a lowball offer when he's literally having the best season of all WR's.

Ok but he has a 4th year, 5th year option and franchise tag after that, so there is no
need to rush.
I get that it may cost more the longer you wait but show me one WR who's great after
getting paid, it seems like all have flamed out, granted he may be different.

JSN's 5th year option is currently projected at around 25 million, assuming he makes the pro bowl this year. If there are any big free agent signings between now and next May, that number could go up slightly.

Currently, the franchise tag for 2026 sits at 28 million (2027 projections aren't out yet). This will increase significantly with the signing of players like Pickens, Evans, London, Nacua... Let's put the 2027 number at a reasonable 32 million.

That means you pay cap hits of 5 million, plus 25 million, plus 32 million, a total of 62 million, for three years of control, then sign him at the market rate, which will likely be north of 45 million, at that point. This would yield a 5-year cost north of 152 million.

Or, you extend him for four years of 36 APY, in the offseason giving you a five-year cost of 149 million, at an effective cap hit of 29.8 APY.

Not a huge difference in total cost, but you protect yourself from the inevitable increases in cap and contract value.

Around 40% of extended wide receivers produce more after signing a big extension, about 40% see a reduction in output, and about 20% stay roughly the same, so you are looking at a 60% chance of having the same or better output.

JSN does not seem like the kind of ego to give up on his craft, after hitting a payday, but it is a gamble. However, it is a gamble you can somewhat protect against, with contract structure.

JSN is fantastic, I am big a fan. But I really don't want to pay any WR 50 million dollars. (I mean maybe prime Randy Moss or Calvin Johnson.) I say we are in a championship window with his rookie deal and when that is up ship him for a haul of picks.

So basically he'd play out his fourth season, then we pick up his fifth year option without an extension (he and his agent would just love that), then we'd have to put the tag on him next off season or he'd become a FA and we couldn't trade him (he and his agent are even loving this more), then we trade him for picks (fans would just love that, and players would be thinking positive about our franchise and its treatment of its best players)?

Doesn't sound good to me. I'll take a pass.

Right, Yet him ballout this year, and if he proves to be this guy next season ink him early to avoid this headache..

This has to be satire. 😅

50 million was a bit of an exageration but Jamar Chase is at 40 million avg per year right now and JSN is on pace to set the single season record

who has had success paying a WR QB money?

Chiefs moved on from Tyreek Hill, it's not that insane

Now imagine our offense without JSN...

He's literally our only receiving option that scares anyone even a little bit, and every other team knows it, and they still can't stop him or really even slow him down.

There are very few players that I think are worth "among the highest paid players at their position" type of contracts, but I think JSN very well might be one of those players that are worth it.

Chiefs have a qb that makes receivers look better. Hawks have a receiver that can make a qb look better.

SEems like a no brainer you extend him immediately after the 2025 season... esp if we head to the playoffs... does he want to get PAID PAID or stick with thats working for him I guess?

Exactly.

The Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes. We don't.
And the Hawks have JSN. They don't.

I like this game. 🙃

But I also agree that if JS tries to "save money" and we end up losing JSN, that's a fireable offense.

But I'm sure JS isn't THAT stupid, right?

RIGHT?
