Wow, I'm surprised to see Drew Timme coming back and Rasir Bolton as well. Did not expect that at all. Julian Strawther is back as well which I did expect. Would have been a mistake for him to lave IMO. Should have another good year coming up with incoming recruits and Efton Reid coming from LSU.

I love Timme, but I've always doubted his game would transfer to the NBA. He's not a shooter and not an NBA caliber athlete, IMO. I'm pretty sure he did the math and will make more money staying in school with NIL.

Lots of talk about the Zags joining the Big 12 conference. The Zags have officially met for discussions with Big 12 conference reps. I was just curious what the locals feel about such a prospect. For it, or agin it?
I think it would be a great move. Their income would be increased dramatically, they would face a far more difficult schedule which would better prepare them for the rigors of March.
They have also dipped their toe in talks with other conferences. Rather go somewhere other than the Big 12? Want to keep things just the way they are?
Whadduya think?

I think it would be a great move. There's a bunch of really good teams in that league. I think its' a better BB league than football.

The Zags have been in talks with the Pac 12, too. It's hard to tell what the college landscape will look like a year or two from now. Oregon and Washington might follow USC and UCLA to the Big 10.

Going to the big 12 instead of the pac 12 doesn't make sense to me.

Top international prospect Alex Toohey commits to Gonzaga.

Pac 12 basketball sucks. Since 2008, they have advanced a team to the Final 4 just once. And next year, UCLA, the most storied program in Pac 12 history, and arguably in the nation, is leaving for the Big 10. On the other hand, the Big 12 is a very good basketball conference and has sent a team to the Final Four every year since 2013 (except 2020 due to the pandemic). The last two national champions, Kansas in 2022 and Baylor in 2021, are members of the Big 12.

I saw that about the Zags most recent commitment. A power forward if I recall.

Weird game. Outside shooting was an adventure. Not sure it says much about either team.

I haven't seen the P12's new agreement, but I dare say they can't compete in individual partner payout with the Big12. If money counts I think the Zags will gain a lot more in multiple ways if they can join the Big12 (which is already at 14 and projecting to get to 16). There will be a big gap between the third and fourth conference and that difference figures to only grow larger as time advances.

Zags running out some guys who have no idea what they are doing. Timme didn't leave because he's not an NBA talent. He'll play overseas for awhile though.

Glad to get the dub though.

I agree that the lack of a legit point guard is a big problem and will leads to losses soon. Also, I think Strawther is over-hyped. Dude clearly has talent but inconsistent. Haven't seen enough from the transfers but they'll need to play a big roll if this team is going to live up to expectations.

Not sure GU will be contending for a title this year. They have a clear need for somebody to run this team. Way too many turnovers. Hopefully Hickman can improve a lot over the year because our guard play isn't great.

They definitely peaked in talent over the past couple of seasons. It will come down to how strong the other teams are now.

This team is the worst I have followed in quite some time. Its a collection of individuals not a cohesive unit. No PG at all and Strawther can go off to the NBA for all I care. His game is better suited there. Lot of one on one non sense. Thinks he is far better than he actually is.

It figures to see lots of surprising results, especially early in the season. Teams will continue to improve as the year progresses and the better teams should rise and become more predictable. These tourneys so early in the year are a good way to discover weaknesses to work on, strengths to exploit, and build toughness to endure in March.

Zags get a really nice win against Alabama. They played very well, cutting out the turnovers, causing turnovers, and having very good offensive flow. Guard play was so much better. The most encouraging part is it was a really good opponent and they showed they can come out on top. Much of this season has had me very concerned but if they can keep up this kind of guard play and play some good D the just might have another tournament run in them.
