Whilst the power-running game is good for reducing turnovers and controlling ToP, if we were to get up by 3 scores on a team before the first half, it would make the opponent's game one-dimensional, making the job of the defense easier (more pass-rush opportunities, turnover opportunities) and at THAT point you can turn to your power running and control the game.
Power running works as a 60 minute game plan if you can prevent a team from driving down the field in 2 minutes at the end of the game. Unfortunately, just about every team in the league has a QB who can (and probably has) do that, because the game has changed so much that makes passing easier, so you need to build up a lead before you can really turn to it.
