  • At my neighborhood gas station, I let him go infront of me in line and after he got done paying for his water and gas I asked for picture but he was on the phone and said "Awww hell no, I knew there was a catch to that" LOL! Damnit... I had to get a pic though couldn't pass the chance up so I snapped a pic of him filling up his Infiniti. Not the most welcoming player but I still love he's our running back. Dude is huge even without pads on. Max Unger is way more approachable haha

Biggest a--clown tho was Jay Buhner. Even had a M's cap and just blew me off with rolling eyes and sh-t. He can take his truck and stick it.

You kidding? Met Jay Buhner at a Sonics game he was attending, dude chatted for a few minutes, signed my ticket, and was letting people come get his autograph all night during the game.

Edit: Disagree with you Minne. As a public figure, I don't think it's out of bounds to politely ask, unless he's out with family, taking a piss, etc. I also don't think it's wrong to politely decline. Perhaps "sorry, but I really appreciate your support," instead of "aw hell no," and I'd be less irritated about it.

  • This is why I don't like approaching celebrities. I did meet Flava Flav at the airport in Vegas years ago, but he became visibly frustrated (beyond being visibly on some kind of cocktail of hard drugs and prescription medications) as the crowd failed to cease flowing and asking for pictures.

Still, I just feel like it's a bother and just kind of awkward to be going about your regular mundane business and be asked to pose for photos, have people snap photos of you doing mundane things, etc.

You're right, he gets paid millions of dollars to play a game because... well... just because!

I understand that athletes don't want to be surrounded all day by adoring fans making peoples day/week/month/year/life because they took a stupid picture with them. But it seems in this situation he could have smiled and been on his way. Not even get off the phone, lean over, take picture.

If you're nice to him, politely ask for a picture, I think he should take that picture. If suddenly there's a crowd then yes, I can see someone getting ignored... but just a random guy at a gas station?

Post like this are more dickish than anything Lynch did. The entitlement some people judge the world with is comical.

Maybe shy is the wrong word - he's humble and unassuming, but also a character.

I agree too, they get paid millions to play the game they love and that money comes directly from fans. They should have the courtesy to take 60 seconds out of their day to take a picture. If it were a big crowd of people, I could see him being leery about it, but one guy?

Fans on the other hand don't make that kind of money or enjoy the celebrity, many struggle to make ends meet but unwaveringly support their team by spending hard-earned money on tickets, jerseys and the products that pay for the TV contracts.

  • First thing I thought of was that sounded like Marshawn being Marshawn. He's "a strange dude" I think one player put it one time, but I think he's shy away from the game and not necessarily someone with an obvious sense of humor. It cracks me up thinking he was probably caught off guard and that is what came out of his mouth.

That's okay Marshawn. You don't have to be Steve Largent off the field. As long as you're Beast Mode on the field, we're all good.

Not saying its the case, BUT, the whole "they get paid millions to play a game" seems to be jealousy. I dont understand what someone's salary has to do with anything? Why would anyone care how much money someone does or doesn't make? If they make more - so? Why does that factor into anything?

They're not celebrities, their athletes. They get paid to perform, NOT take pictures or be PC to everyone. If anything the issue is the fans raising people who carry a ball well to diety levels. Because they carry a ball well, they should be better people?

The bolded part is exactly right. They get paid millions to play the game. They dont get paid to be all chummy and bff's with any fans they happen to run into.

And I hate to break it to anybody who might think differently... but they dont play for us. Most of them probably couldnt care less about us, or think its silly how devoted we are to them. They play for their family and their loved ones, the pay check and hopefully the love of the game. But not for the fans.

  • This reminds me of a time in Vegas, where I met Gary Payton at a movie theatre. He was in the concessions line, and I had just gotten my popcorn. He was on the phone the whole time, and I asked, quietly..."you're Gary Payton?" and he nodded while still on the phone...so I quietly said again "hate to bug you, but I was a huge Sonics fan, I thought you and Kemp were the best"

He then nodded again and mouthed "thanks" and held his hand out real quick for a fist bump.

I didn't feel like he slighted me in the least bit. I kinda felt like an ass afterwords for not waiting till he was off the phone, but I was so shocked to see him there, in the least likely place to expect it, that I kinda blurted the question out before I figured I was being rude.

  • The only thing that dissapoints me with the story is that he wasnt driving his big ol' van.

I would have given him a little baby stiff arm and then shouted "Hold mah d**k!"

  • I do think most city heroes are held to a higher standard. With that being said, they are human. Have you watched the Real Rob Reports?? Well.. he doesn't even let his own FB (who blocks for him) put him on camera. The guy doesn't like the camera, and that doesn't make him a jerk.

Yeah, all he does is bring it every friggin game and put his body on the line like few other RB's in the league. I think he's earned our respect by doing his job and has the right to be left alone for a minute. JMO.

  • You guys can call him rude, but it was probably the appropriate reaction if he was on the telephone.

  • Fine, they don't owe fans anything but seriously how shitty is that? Sorry but the fans drive player salaries 100%, there is no other source of revenue for the NFL, period.

Why not give a little something back to the people that support the shit out of you? They should be grateful that they get paid millions and keep a smile on their face everyday that they get the opportunity that they do. I know Marshawn is a little different because he is a little strange, and if he was on the phone he gets a pass for this encounter, but its still disappointment.

My boss met him in a hotel elevator at the pro bowl one year. Based on my bosses account, he was more or less a dick but also just kindof strange. Perhaps he is just a hard guy to get to know.

That all being said, what he has done for this team on the field cannot be overstated, so he will be rightfully loved regardless of what he does off the field...

I don't agree with this. I think approaching anyone while they are talking on the phone is incredibly rude and disrespectful. Who is to say he wouldn't have been happy to sign an autograph if he was off the phone?
