Gotta love Sims! I still remember the first time he really got into the King's Court night. Sims: "And the fans are chanting K-K-K". There was a pause, then laughter from the whole announcers box. The guy makes it fun to listen to!

Oh, and GO M's!

Very Nice. I have seen a lot of As games in the past at the coliseum and it was excellent for baseball ( much of the time no ones goes and you can sit almost anywhere ) TV and a ball .... Maybe buy some lottery tickets !

Back-to-back home runs off Loe.

Ugh, I'm not liking this game. This reminds me of last year.

Can't expect to win or look good every game. I find that baseball is too exhausting to follow with the game by game intensity we all follow football. There's just too many games to get too upset over any one.

I'm just really happy to see Gutierrez show some power.

Maybe the A's will move to Sacramento. They have only had like 15k attendance on their 2nd and 3rd games.

Exactly what I was talking about. Joe had 11.75 era in this preseason? Why did they trot this bum out?

They supposedly have have great pitching and this is .......baffling.

Morse has three homers already? Awesome.

CC Sabathia has a 7.2 ERA after one game, does he suck? Baseball is all about sample size. You can't judge anyone off of one game. Take a look at Saunder's 2012-2011 numbers, he and Vargas are very nearly the same player. And that's based upon 382 innings of work, not four.

Saunders (P) came out rusty - which is just like his predecessor, Jason-whoopsbiginning-Vargas.. I'll take 2 out of 3 every series, hell yes I will. And against a division rival who was quite strong last year.

Our hit totals are a little scary being 5-9-5 so far, but yes we took 2/3 from the division champs in their ballpark. Its nice to see some pop in our bats for once also!

Let's just see what Maurer does today--very excited for this kid! I can see him leaping Saunders to be the 3rd arm in the rotation in no time.

*edit--Crap, looks like it might be a rainout. That sucks.

I think Mike Morse is going to be fun to watch this year! If he keeps this up, I have no problem with him sharing the nickname of "Beast mode."

How "beast mode" could a baseball player be? Maybe we can call him baby beast mode. But hitting 4 times a game and standing around the outfield doesn't constitute sharing a nickname with a guy who runs into, through and over 250-300 lb men 25-30 times a game.

Oaklands attendance on a weeknight isn't any worse than the mariners... And the athletics have been one of the few franchises over the last decade that have been as futile as the mariners. It'll pick up if the wins keep coming.

It would not be out of the question to suggest "here we go again".... the hitting has been sparse after.a torrid spring and the back end of the rotation struggled. But let's remember... baseball is 162 games and there will be many stretches we go 2-2 on the road and are happy with it. And the As are a good club

Still.... aside from Morse the plate appearances have been less than encouraging. Hopefully a change in location will inspire

.500 ball against the A's is A-OK. Now let's get the White Sox monkey off of our backs.

Gotta admit, last night's game was a nail biter. I tuned in during the 5th inning just as Beavan was starting to shit the bed. Watched all the way through the 10th and came away with the following impressions.

- Hitting is better this year, and could even be a strength of this team.
- Our starting pitching staff is not that great. Hultzen's and Walker's development cannot go fast enough.
- We try to get cute with using specialist pitchers for certain situations and it results in base hits and runs scored when we put a cold relief pitcher on the mound.
- Brendan Ryan is a pretty damn good shortstop
- Michael Saunders is a pretty damn good center fielder
- We are probably going to lose close games with Tom Wilhelmsen as our closer.

Haven't they already won their 3 games for April?

I see Felix got beat last night. They've been so miserable so long I find it very hard to get excited about them anymore.

Every year there is always a gaping hole in the squad. In previous years, our bats couldn't hit a damn thing, but pitching was aces with at least two premier starters, capable relievers, and an ace closer with a red hot fastball. Fielding was also top notch, and had to be because nobody could bat in runs to save their lives.

This year it is the exact opposite. The bats are really whacking the ball around but pitching is a real weakness, especially with such awful, awful relievers. The entire bullpen sucks, top to bottom, except for Carter Capps.

Well, that's what happens when the front office trades away our good players rather than spends more money... we traded away our 2nd or 3rd best starter for some increased offense and I have a feeling it's definitely going to have an effect on our ERA this year. The pitcher we picked up to replace Vargas (Saunders) sure didn't impress in his first start, but we'll see how he does tomorrow.

To be fair, the club has amazing pitching talent like 4 months away from the big league squad. Atleast three maybe four very good pitchers. They traded from a position of strength to add offense, something every Ms fan has been begging for since the ill adviosed Bedard trade.

Nah, these kids are really good. Looking at filling in the bullpen with pryor, capps and wilhemson for the year and id say atleast two are rotation guys next year.

On Zunino.. yes he may be excellent. But Smoak and Montero were supposed to be as well. Man I hope those twp (and ackely) start hitting

Can I also just say that I think Ackley is gonna prove to disappoint again this year. His new batting form has seemed to make him worse.

been a rough start for 4 players that need to be better for us to win games (Ackely, Montero, Smoak, Seeger). Maybe Safeco and Astros pitching (although I believe we draw Humber... of the perfect game against the Mariners Humber... tonight)

The Mariners last year did a great job of rejuvenating crappy pitchers' careers by providing them with their best games of their careers.

Cannot believe I am about to speak up for Smoak, but at least he is hitting the ball hard. That will eventually lead to more base hits as long as he keeps it up. I am not as worried about Seeger (for some reason) as much as I am worried about Montero and Ackley. Morse and Morales are doing their job, and at least Michael Saunders is doing his part so far. I will be more worried if these guys fail to perform against the Astros.

Smoak has been making some solid contact, which is all you can ask for. It's extremely early in the season, and even after the Astros series it's not enough time to make a judgment about how these guys are doing. Give it a couple of months and see where they're at in early June.

Good night for Saunders! Granted, it was the Astros, but still impressive.

Normally I would say give it a couple months, but these guys have had long enough. Put up or shut up. One month max and if they are still hitting .200 or worse than I think it is okay to worry. Smoak and Ackley especially.

Good win in the home opener, but the preseason bats seem to have suddenly dried up somewhat. That's disturbing, considering their track record over the past few years.
