Decided to create this as it's own thread, since it was going to be buried in the Triplette thread on the main forum. Interesting insight no matter how one feel's about the quality of NFL officiating.

The video, which is a summary of the 3 part article, with Peter King narrating with interviews throughout. Well done video.

Part 1 of the three-part series looked at referee Gene Steratore.

“Okay,” Steratore says. “We just watched that for what? Ten or 15 minutes? For the part of the play that takes maybe 1.3 seconds? And you see something, but you’re not sure how much it is. I didn’t call it because I felt like it wasn’t enough of a restriction. But understand, when it’s reviewed by the supervisor or the guys at the league, that there’s a chance that’s enough and that’s a miss. That’s how finely tuned we are. Then understand that five of those happen throughout the course of 15 weeks we work, and your chances of working an AFC or NFC Championship, or the big game, are gone. On maybe five of those plays in an entire year. That’s how tightly scrutinized this business is.

I like Steratore, too bad the Cards/Texans game probably pushed him out of the running for the Superbowl. Interesting to see how his two downgrades influenced the Bears/Ravens game. And the fact he has to keep an address of his mailbox due to the insane fans across the country. Not a job I would want.
