It's not often a college football team has to stare down a five-time Pro Bowl running back in practice.

But that's exactly what happened when former California Golden Bears star Marshawn Lynch practiced with his alma mater Tuesday in Sydney. Cal opens the season against Hawaii on Saturday in Australia -- or Friday at 10 p.m. ET.

Nobody is as good as their legend, but the NFL screwed up a HUGE opportunity to bring this guy in house.

He appeals to almost any age group & demographic (except, apparently sports media?), both genders, and for some reason even the fans of other teams that dislike the Seahawks love the guy.

If the NFL just handed him a few blank checks for his youth programs in exchange for bringing him as an ambassador to help orient programs more to the needs of players and underserved communities - I suspect he would have bit.

There have been guys that fan bases love, but you don't often get guys that are almost universally appealing enough that any fanbase seems to be drawn to. Now, part of this is that he isn't out there, maybe if he was more visible and more engaged there would be more backlash.

But I think people just like the guy's energy, his will to do for others, and his brutal honesty/complete transparency. Lynch seems to be a lot of things, but he doesn't seem to be a guy that won't say what he really thinks. I think people respect and admire that.
