nice write-up...enjoy!

While the secret is out among NFL defensive coordinators, it will take a while before the Seahawks have company. The problem is that tall cornerbacks are one of the rarest commodities in football. "You just can't find a bunch of Richard Shermans," said Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell. "There just aren't that many of them. This is evolutionary."

Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said that within the scouting community, 5 feet 10 was always the "magic number" for a cornerback to surpass to be considered big. Now those players' value has skyrocketed. This off-season, 6-foot-2 corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who had bounced between three teams since entering the league five years ago, suddenly landed a five-year contract with the New York Giants worth $35 million. Two 6-foot corners were selected in the top 14 picks of the NFL draft. Sherman and the Arizona Cardinals' 6-foot-1 Patrick Peterson both signed record-breaking extensions this off-season.

Is this from the same WSJ writer that complained last season that Seattle DBs committed fouls on every single play because they knew the refs wouldn't call them all?

Pete really was one of the earliest adopters of the tall/long-armed CB approach. Here are some of his USC cornerbacks who played for Pete starting in the mid-200s, along with guys who've played CB for the Hawks:

Eric Wright: 5'10" - 31 3/4-inch arm length (CB)
Terrell Thomas: 6'0" - 32 1/8-inch arm length (CB)
Shareece Wright: 5'11" - 32 1/4-inch arm length (CB)
Josh Pinkard: 6'1" - 32 1/4-inch arm length (S/CB)

Sherm: 6'3" - 32-inch arm length (CB)
BB: 6'4" - 32 7/8-inch arm length (CB)
Maxwell: 6'0" - 33 1/2-inch arm length (CB)
Lane 6'0" - Unknown arm length (CB)
Thurmond: 5'11" - 32 3/4-inch arm length (CB)

The Raiders got a good one in Keith McGill from Utah. He looked excellent against us.

Pete and John drafted more than a body type, the guys we brought in have a special type of mentality and at least our starters are intelligent guys as well. Couple that with how we just do business is why we have success. It will take a revolution of how teams go about business, if you look at the staff here in Seattle we have Sport science specialists and we also have therapists and other professionals that are unique to the Seahawks.
