Very depressing reading this; we ended up with Davis

Very depressing that we let Sean go. I understand roster issues but surely we could have found a way to keep McGrath instead surfing the internet to find a 3rd TE. Davis cant possibly be an upgrade in that spot.

5. Sean McGrath, TE, Chiefs: The Chiefs plucked McGrath off the waiver wire in an extremely ho-hum move in early September. A few weeks later, he’s in the starting lineup. McGrath has taken advantage of his opportunities, too, catching 11 passes and a touchdown while proving himself to be a solid blocker. Oh, and he has arguably the NFL’s best beard.

Damn it. I thought he looked great in practice and showed good potential in the preseason at a huge area of need for us.

Oh, yeah. And the beard. Dammit!!

was i the only one that thought he looked better in the preseason than Willson? I think this might be a case of the coaches going with their hearts instead of their heads.

That was one move I really didn't understand. I wish we can have McGrath, MikeRob, and Bradford back.

Is there like zero chance McCoy comes back this year? I can't remember if it was an ACL or a foot injury.

Of course, who knows what happens if we release Willson and KC picks him up, someone could be posting an article about him instead. Only time will tell

Good for him. For whatever reason the Seahawks decided to cut him and gamble they could carry 2 TEs until injuries in other areas eased up to allow them to sign a 3rd TE. They probably got burned on a calculated risk, thinking no one would sign McGrath off waivers. Ooops!

Until the NFL allows for larger rosters, it seems this happens from time to time. I wouldn't have done it but that is what the Pro Personnel folks are paid to know (if the team really wanted to bring him back on the PS or about the time they brought in Davis). I would have cut one of the RBs or LBs in hindsight.

He's still the 3rd string on KC, he's playing because injury. And, you know what? TE's will always have inflated numbers playing for Smith...he's a checkdown dude.

Well, Mike Person is the one that really took McGrath's spot. He got cut after Week 1.

Well he would have been a #3 here too. And it sounds like he would be great in that role with the way he has played. Much better than what we've had so far.

Davis is basically a 3rd tackle when he's on the field which at this point with injuries to OL is probably more valuable than a 3rd TE. At least short-term.

Because we have an Alex Smith type QB? Or, are Wilson and the Seahawks higher in YPA?

John Carlson looked like a Hall of Famer playing with Seneca Wallace. And, Carlester Crumpler with early-Vick the same. Vernon Davis's numbers dropped, ALOT, when Alex Smith left. Now, is it the QB's style, or is it JS and Pete missed on this?

I'm going to start a post about that. Hold on guys...

I predicted he would have a big year. Just didn't realize it would be for a different team.

Our Number 1 TE doesn't really have any catches so why are people thinking a number 3 TE would be a pro-bowler?

I used Willson in my example because someone had said they wish we'd cut him instead...the only point I was making is that it's only been a few games and who's to say in the long term whether it was the right choice or not. Way to early to fret about it. Glad the guy is getting an opportunity over in KC.

Has anyone thought that maybe releasing McGrath was in the best interest of McGrath? Maybe JS and PC thought he is a better TE than #3 on the depth chart and by releasing him, he has that opportunity? It's known to happen. Releasing someone so they can have a better chance with another team. If the offense was clicking and using Miller/Willson effectively, these TE threads would be a moot issue. The Seahawks have moved on and McGrath is on NFL roster with an opportunity to contribute. It's great for him.
