I mean it sucks that he won't return at all, but if he won't require any surgery I guess it's the best news we can get... I guess I'll take it

That is the silver lining, if there is any.

Rods, pins and screws = 6-12 months of recovery. So hopefully Earl can heal on his own and get his head right to get back to the team by training camp next year ready to roll.

Which I think he will. He's an emotional dude, but he truly loves the game of football. So hard to see someone so passionate about his profession walk away in his prime.

Earl is an odd duck. I could totally see him making an early exit.
Earl is a complex spiritual person. Characterizing him as an odd duck is inappropriate...
and who more than I know the meaning of inappropriate. :|

We wish you a speedy recovery Mr. Thomas, whatever you choose to do in the future.

Do we know anything about the severity of the bone break yet? Was it one clean break, multiple breaks or any shattering of the bone? A cast gives me hope that it's not a compound fracture and should heal on its own. That's what I'm hoping.

The medical report that Pete gave was that it was a cracked bone and would not requite surgery. It will be immobilized with a splint and he will not be able to put any weight on it for 4 weeks.

See, in my world, odd duck is a great compliment.

Most athletes will play till they drop or no one wants them. Earl seems to have a more holistic approach. Much more cerebral and, well, spiritual.

That makes his motivations harder to predict than the average athlete.

My apologies, I sit corrected. I shall adopt it.
Heal fast Earl III, you odd duck, from a seemingly "odd duck" himself.
:D

would we actually want earl back in the playoffs, unsure of his leg, a little rusty, and not 100%
