I'm sure the league has gotten the message that the officiating is Hall of Fame caliber BAD. I just turned 67 and started watching pro football in 1957, and in all those years this year has been the absolute worst. It's a combo of things. Too many stinkin rules. Many of them are so nitpicky that it makes watching games a waste of time.

Even the refs aren't sure what to call, and of course every ref crew has their own interpretation of the same rules. The tech is there to eliminate the need to have a human not even playing the game affect the outcome.

They "let em play" and you got a great game out of it.

If they could do away with so much of the ticky tack PI and Holding calls and just focus on safety issues such as blows to the head, it would be a much better game. MNF showed that you can have a fair game without refs intruding into it as much as they usually do.

You poll fans, and it'd be a landslide as to which way they'd like games to be called, tight or let the players play.
.

Poll the players? You will get the same result.

Poll the coaches? It will probably be 75/25 in favor of letting them play.

Who TF wants all these flags?

My take on this.., so you know.., I don’t post much but have read this sight often since the early days when Todd first built it and have been a season ticket holder since 1983 when Chuck Knox came to town.

There were a ton of NFL people at this game... I was stuck waiting to enter South Stadium parking garage for police escorts of dignitaries in Black SUVS before the game and again upon leaving the stadium area... I thought Commissioner Goodell was in attendance giving an award to someone at the game... I do have club seats and had two guys with NFL Dress Coats and badges sitting a few seats away from me. I did see several of these guys around club area...

Do you suppose this had anything to do with letting the teams play more than usual? I kinda had that thought...

I am sure someone out there has statistics, but when I see a game officiated like this, I always wonder if it's just the crew. I am sure that some crews have a higher tendency to throw flags while others may have more of a tendency to keep them in their pockets.

Either way, I would much rather see a game like this where only the blatant is called and it doesn't seem to be one-sided for either team. I could get on board with all games being officiated similarly. I spend enough time yelling at the players, yelling at the refs just makes my throat hurt the next day

Absolutely.
We’ve gotten so used to complaining (rightfully so) about the “officiating”, this game was so refreshing in that aspect.

I’d feel the same even if we had not gotten the “W”.

For me, I almost didn’t notice the officials. That’s how, IMHO it should always be.

It was a pretty cleanly played game as well. I don't think I once yelled, "How could those incompetent SOB"s miss that call!"
