Let me ask you a theoretical question: what percentage of people who are self-proclaimed "realists" are actually thinking truly as closely with reality as possible? And how many of the people are pessimists who are trying to package it in a superior way in order to convince themselves that their way is proper?

Nope. Ignorance and overreactions should be smugly mocked to a point where the person espousing them is embarrassed. It's only the right thing to do.
