Looking pretty good if PFF would to be trusted:

By overall defense gradings:
Leonard Williams (76.2) - Reed (63.5) - Jones (61.7)
Mafe (73.9) - Baker (66.6) - Dodson (90.2) - Nwosu (68.5)

By run defense:
Leonard Williams (68.5) - Reed (53) - Jones (61.8)
Mafe (61.3) - Baker (56.7) - Dodson (86.1) - Nwosu (70)

By pass rush:
Leonard Williams (70.3) - Reed (70.8) - Jones (65.1)
Mafe (77.8) - Baker (57.9) - Dodson (72.8) - Nwosu (65.7)

By coverage:
Leonard Williams (69) - Reed (64.3) - Jones (57.9)
Mafe (53.5) - Baker (74.4) - Dodson (88.4) - Nwosu (64.9)

There has been a wholesale change for LB corps from last year. I hope this results in better tackling and run defense. Small edit - It's Dodson not Dobson.

Thanks!

Baker is pretty in coverage, that ought to help.

Seems very likely JS trades down from #16 to take Edgerin Cooper or Junior Colson as our 1st pick, wherever that ends up at. Both are meant to be very good against the run. Cooper is faster, seems to be closer to Roquan athletically. They could also go Payton Wilson whose an elite athlete but has question marks on health.

But we might have to use a lot of draft capital on OGs and LB, we really need help there.

I am very interested in what they do with Dre'Mont Jones. He's a pass rush specialist that can't hold up inside. He's a big edge type. You can save a good amount of money with a post-June trade.

Jones' game improved once Pete moved him to play DE, although he still played somewhat below expectation but not unserviceable.

Which is what Mac did with Clowney. There's a place. I just don't know if it's worth the price.

I’m all for the LB change. Last years coverage was a cheat code for other teams. 3rd and 7, no problem. Target a TE right up the middle.

Bring relief for our LBs in the form of a FS that can assist with a TE but can’t cover a receiver? No problem for the offense….create an additional mismatch by bringing a receiver in motion to that FS side that forces the FS to pick him up.

You now have the TE and the motion receiver creating two mismatches.

That scenario alone pissed me off almost as much as our crappy tackling.

“Ok…Jamal is dropping down to slow that TE down a bit..give Bobby a hand….oh shit, receivers in motion. Oh no, receiver is …”

TOUCHDOWN. Ffs..

I suspect we are better overall at LB, isn't that what we all wanted?
I agree with that.

Love Wagz ofc…always wanted Queen over Brooks. Water under the bridge.

I’m stocked that we have LBs that can cover. We had zero ability to cover TEs last year..and it showed.

We have had zero ability to cover TE's for 14 years. Just ask the Chargers what their game plan was every game against us or the 49ers, Kittle ran rampant almost every game.

According to PFF, Baker has been good with coverage in the last three seasons. Run defense? No so much.

Don’t forget when Seattle lost Nwosu, the run defense, also suffered.

Hopefully, having Nwosu back brings some stability back at run stopping support at the first level.

The Nwosu loss was quite substantial and Seattle did feel his absence.

Seattle was never really able to cover tight ends in the Pete Carroll era. Like for the most part.

There was some pretty bad games in which tight ends made the defensive coverage look non existent even during the LOB days.

Remember when Antonio Gates shredded Seattle? I think he had 3 touchdowns in one game against Seattle.

Even Tony Gonzales with Atlanta shredded Seattle and that was PAST his prime…

Two hall of famers shredded Seattle? That seems a little ineffective in making a point.

Remember that game when Greg Olson caught the TD and beat Seattle? And Kam and Sherm was seen arguing about it?

Seattle had some tough games against tight ends.

The only tight end that Seattle pretty much stopped, Jimmy Graham.

And then Seattle trades for him….

That’s the spirit!!! lol.

Not sure if a three time pro bowler beating the Seahawks is much of an upgrade on the point.

I am not disagreeing with you, but pro bowlers and hall of famers beating the Seahawks is not a great example.
