"Detectives working an unrelated drug investigation ... observed Lyerla in a parked vehicle snorting what appeared to be a white powdery substance. Lyerla was contacted by police and admitted to using and possessing cocaine."

The guy snorted Cocaine while in his car and a cop happened to see him do it. I never liked him as a prospect and I shouldn't feel sorry for him, but talk about shit luck.

This is so ridiculous.. How do people get these golden tickets in life and choose to just throw this away. Just absolutely insane.

Well, if you're going to piss away an NFL career, you might as well do it on cocaine rather than marijuana.

I'm not sure how the drug laws in Oregon are, but there is a chance that he might go through some sort of drug court type of thing. He will probably be on probation for a while at the very least. But like you said, how does a college kid afford cocaine? Imagine giving the kid a contract in the $200k range... Hopefully this is a wake up call for him, and he goes through the necessary treatment options to renew his image. But at this point, I really don't think that he will be on anyone's board.

I'm pretty sure Colt signed with an agent after leaving the UO football team. Generally an agent will give players money.

Well, I guess the erratic behavior and Mel Gibson type moments make a bit of sense now.

If he hits rehab, I'd be fine with Seattle taking him in UDFA. Not because he deserves the opportunity based on his actions, but he has the talent and perhaps this is his "rock bottom" moment that turns his life around. Worth a shot, if it's UDFA.

Bad parenting perhaps. Sounds like his dad ran out on him at a young age. I think the teen years for many boys like Lyerla and Aaron Hernandez are the most important for a dad to teach their boys how to be a man. Hernandez's dad died and it became evident he rebelled against authority after that and now look at him.

Willing to take a shot on him in round six or below. How the hell does a college kid have the money to buy cocaine, anyway?

I think you overestimate how much cocaine costs. Lot of parties in college had coke. If its easy to get in Pullman, its got to be easy in Eugene.

He's young enough to fix himself if put in the right situation. Who knows if that will happen though.

From what I hear, mom is a huge problem in his life. He was getting better before she moved to Eugene. In HS she would let him stay out all night, and basically told him it's ok to do whatever he wants. She has never instilled a respect for anyone other than himself in his life. Kid has basically raised himself.

I went to Arizona friggin' State. Man, probably I was just going to the wrong parties. I'm sure there were a few frat row parties where people were shooting up heroin, even.

Anyway, I'm still fine with looking at Lyerla late on day three or in UDFA, but man, dropping out of a high-profile school with a propensity for producing NFL players and getting caught doing coke is just...man, wow.

What an idiot! Sitting out in an open parking lot snorting cocaine. He was asking to get busted. I spent my fair share of time doing hard drugs but I always was careful and over the years never got caught. It just amazes me how many college and professional sports players keep getting busted right and left, it must be something to do with the attitude they have because of their position. Arrogance, or ego and they figure they are too important to be busted?

I know that theory works with doctors, dentists and lawyers flying airplanes, they wreck them more than anyone else. When rescuing them I was always dumbfounded by the circumstances and would get stories like "it was getting dark, I couldn't see which way the wind was blowing, or how big the rocks were so I landed." And there sits a 180 Scout, busted up among rocks a foot or two in diameter. Financially, wrecking a small plane is no big deal to them and because of their position/education they have a big ego. So maybe it's the same thing with football players who get to ride to the stadium in a big bus with people cheering and being escorted by police with their lights on that gives them that feeling of invincibility when it comes to breaking the law.

Stupid is as stupid does. :34853_doh:
