How undrafted free agents have been key to Seahawks' success

The Seattle Seahawks carry more undrafted free agents than any other team in the NFL.

The Seahawks believe they have an edge with results. When they took the field Sunday, seven of 22 starters -- Rawls, wide receiver Doug Baldwin, wide receiver Jermaine Kearse, Gilliam, center Patrick Lewis, defensive lineman Michael Bennett and cornerback DeShawn Shead -- were undrafted free agents. Players confirmed that the team uses those examples in its recruiting pitches.

"That’s legit," Gilliam said. "It’s not just them talking because you see Kearse, Doug [Baldwin]. Sherm [Richard Sherman] was late. Russell [Wilson] was late. [J.R.] Sweezy was late. All those guys, late-round draft picks or undrafted, all got opportunities to play. And they’re all starting now."

Carroll said he finds the type of player who goes undrafted to be attractive.

Seahawks have been doing this since inception, Mudbone, Sinclair, many others. Pete has taken it to a new level though.

I think Pete see's a player that has the ability that isn't used correctly or has a bad team around him and see's the competive nature in them. So many people just look at measurable and stats, Pete and John take it a lot further.

Sometimes a desire to be part of something special drives a player to lay it all on the line, and leave nothing to doubt in the Coaches mind.
Players mentioned in the OP, are obviously playing their hearts out, and it's paying off big time.
Pete Carroll knows that these guys are going to give their ALL for him, and the Seahawks Franchise.
