No, you don't get surgery-related injuries from a light kick. He just twisted and jumped awkwardly enough for his groin to go 'NOPE!'
I hurt mine once just from my cleats sliding a little during a cut on a frozen field and then suddenly getting traction, forcing my groin to contract so I could keep balance. I could walk fine but running was out of the question for about 6 weeks.
