Didn't Galloway run a sub 4.2 40yard dash? I thought there were reports he did. Straight speed wise, Lockette is faster Harvin. I remember Daryl Turner had a couple of good years then became hands of stone. He had a serious case of the dropsies. There was also Doug Thomas, Louis Clark, and Michael Bates. So called speedsters that didn't amount to much as WR. I think Thomas and Bates at least had some track and field careers. Bates was in the Olympics.

could've sworn Galloway was right there in 5th place all time receiving yards as a Seahawk, 3rd in receiving TDs and 3rd in yards per game.

When you have Largent ahead of you in all 3 categories it doesn't look so bad.
History will always tell us that Joey Galloway has over 10,000 receiving yards and is therefore part of a (an admittedly fast-growing) productive club of receivers. I mean - in all 4 of Galloway's full seasons as a Seahawk, he had more yards than Harvin's career high. It's not a fair comparison at all.

Other than underachieving and arrogance, I really don't see the comparison.

Galloway was a much more complete WR that came from a pro style offense at Ohio State. Harvin has never been a good WR,and never will. He's just a super fast and tough specialist that needs those bubble screens and jet sweeps to be effective. His route running is awful, and he hates blocking because he thinks it's beneath him.

The point of my OP was to illustrate that Harvin and Galloway are similar players in their respective impacts on the game and the draft capital that was used initially by the teams that drafted them and the draft capital that was garnered in trading them. Below are the stats for each player from their first 6 years in the league. While Galloway had better receiving yards, Harvin has better return stats. If you add Harvins rushing yards to his receiving yards then their total yards from scrimmage are only about 300 yards apart. Galloway 4519 to Harvins 4227. Certainly, they are different players with Galloway being the better receiver with Harvin being the better returner.

Overall Galloway was a better player, but in regards to their overall impact on their teams, they are fairly equal.

Galloway-1st round, pick #8
Traded to Dallas for 2 #1's
Dallas later traded him to TB for Keyshawn Johnson

Harvin-1st round, pick #22
Traded to Seahawks for 1st, 3rd, 7th
Traded to Jets for conditional 6th

All of this.

And at least Galloway was somewhat likeable. Joey just wanted more money. Harvin, otoh, GOT the money and still played the punk. With all respect to the OP, (I do understand his intent), but this post aside, I couldn't put Harvin's name in the same sentence as Galloway's. Not on the field or off.

I just had a funny but sobering thought:

To this day, Joey Galloway is the best WR ever drafted by the Seattle Seahawks. Dayum.

Harvin 6 catches, average 4.5 yards tonight.

A shame Seattle couldn't figure out how to use him...

He actually finished with 1 catch for 6 total receiving yards...

Not that the Jets had any interest in throwing today.

Harvin had a few carries to go with that catch but basically looked like....well, a 6th rd pick. But he sure does make Jeremy Kerley look good (and fast) out there. I will be semi surprised if Harvin's still in the league this time next year. He's been reduced to a one trick pony with more downside than up. Aloha Biotch.

I might have looked at run vs receiving

He actually had a couple nice (little) carries last night.

More than WR, Harvin is much like a ridiculously, over-hyped, over-paid Darren Sproles. I wanted Sproles (or even Woodhead) when we screwed the pooch with Harvin. Especially knowing we could have one or the other PLUS Dez Bryant. Imagine this offense with the addition of Sproles and Bryant.

Some in here wish to believe Dez = Harvin. Crazy talk. One is a complete receiver, the other a complete asshole.

Here's how it's shaping up:

Harvin's bouts with migraines and general punkass-dom / suspensions etc, slowed the league from figuring out how to defend the guy. Now, as I stated earlier in this thread, he has been reduced to a one trick pony. The jet sweeps and all that stuff...we saw where that was going in Seattle. DCs are getting his number. He's no deep threat and the Vikes, to their credit, played him to his fullest potential ...basically serving him up long hand offs. Then there's always the potential for injury (real or fabricated).

Last night we saw Miami refuse to kick to him...so that gives the appearance of value. But the week before, Harvin was fielding kicks and couldn't take them out past the 15. This is still a team sport.

I was dead serious (above) in saying I won't be surprised if this is his last year in the league and this year is far from over. IF we don't hear of Harvin acting up in NY, it's only because they're not reporting it.

Harvin = Poor man's Golden Tate.

It's weird how we used to say it was the other way around.
