Schottenheimer is really good at designing running plays, always has been. He pulls out some creative stuff to get the run game going. He is the man behind the wildcat offense trend awhile back. This year he is doing some really cool stuff with Fant, and coming up with some very good cool run plays. He also makes good use of presnap motions, something Bevell never dreamed of doing. I do believe that our running game is also a product of Schottenheimer, not just our new old linecoach (brain fart).

Unfortunately though, Schottenheimer's passing offense is just a mess all around. He doesn't have good game sense here. His passing offense is overly simplistic. We don't really run every play on the route tree, and we do really weird things at times. Game sense is not very good here, but it is kind of par for the course from a Carroll team's offense. I wonder how much of this is Carroll, and how much of it is Schottenheimer? Carroll does seem to take an active role in the offense.

Some really good analysis and thought provoking posts in this thread. Watching the Rams game I was convinced our massive run attack was a deliberate plan to sustain drives, the clock and keep Goff off the field as much as possible. I suspect we'll see the same tactics against Rodgers and other top flight offenses. Our D has just been inconsistent and at times poor.

Our lack of a methodical and efficient passing attack is indeed frustrating and I echo the sentiments of others who feel injuries have taken their toll on our receivers. Perhaps Schott could dial up some more screens to tackle the stacked box/frequent blitzes we'll be seeing. All of our RBs are good receivers so maybe that's an option. Per ESPN, Baldwin said he's finally pain free and Schott noticed he was able to plant and accelerate better so that's encouraging. I do agree with others about incorporating WCO routes and timing could help as well.

This is stupid. So the Rams, with maybe the best offensive mind in football, average less than 1 yard more than us on YAC. So out of 25 passes completed, they would have approximately 23 yards more than us because of YAC. I’m happy that we can run the ball again...thank you. This is just the beginning of us truly being a contender again. Both sides of the ball should only get better going forward.

And yesterday was frustrating. I don't like 1950s football. It keeps the games close. But in a game that gives every advantage to the passer - it gives you no chance to win.
This sentence makes no sense. If the style keeps the game close then by definition it gives you a chance to win. I don't know why I read your posts. Every time I do I find myself rolling my eyes.

I don’t understand your noun. I shouldn’t find joy that we’re scoring more points than almost all previous years?

More stats.

Defense ppg

2018...20.9
2017...20.8
2016...18.3
2015...17.3
2014...15.9
2013...14.4
2012...15.3
2011...19.7

If anything, we need to get the defense back to a top notch defense.

So I got another 'I wonder' moment today while using the urinal - always the best place to be when thinking about the Schotty. So it came to me pretty easily - I wonder where the Seahawks rank in terms of YAC.

Why would I be curious about this? Well, I have a hunch that one of the more ailing aspects of our offense is passing (okay, I didn't really go out on a limb there, did I?) but I was curious where the smoke in the forest is coming from.

Some things to get out of the way:
Your fingers?

"I feel like some of you will never be happy"

That's not why I spend time doing this - it's to get the ole noodle churning. Posts like mine aren't to undermine overall success, it's to look at things that could stand room for improvement in addition to what we already have improved. I don't think about this stuff during the game all that much - too busy being emotional ;)
