Does everyone agree that the whole "Mr. Irrelevant" award makes no sense whatsoever? This nonsense was started in 1971 when there were 17 rounds in the draft, and 442 players were taken. (Btw, there were years when there were 30 rounds in the draft.) But now that there are only 7 rounds, and plenty of undrafted free agents are signed following the draft, designating the last pick in the draft as "Mr. Irrelevant" is just stupid. The fact that it was Brock Purdy last year kind of confirms that. I generally hate stuff like this anyway, like the Golden Raspberry Awards. It must be perpetuated by people who don't really know football.

You're being a little harsh for something that isn't that important. It has nothing to do with who knows football and who doesn't. It's just a traditional title thats been running for 5 decades. I wouldn't expect everything to be the same as it was in the 70s.

Yes, Mr. Irrelevant players make the team more often these days, but it's still as it always was - a meaningless title that gets you a cool vacation from a Salata family for being the last drafted player.

It's not the same as a Golden Raspberries, where ineptitude is being gauged.
