I say we find out. We got to see who would win in a fight between Muhammad Ali and Rocky Marciano. Not sure why we can't see the same thing between Reed and Sherman.

Shit somewhere Jim Brown is still saying he can beat someone in the NFL at RB in a 40's race.

Hell, Sherman's already got TWO more All-Pros than Reed. Reed never even got one. Who is this loser?

Reed's in the HoF as of this year. If Sherman can put together a career of 10-15 years like Reed did a the level he's playing, then he'll get there too.

All of these high performing guys think they're the best. Find me a HoF receiver who would say that that Sherman would shut them down. And this wasn't a "can Sherman cover Reed" question/answer if you go read the quote; he was clearly asked if Sherman could "check" him. He also said that he wasn't Sanders or Woodson "yet". He was comparing Sherman to two HoF DBs, which should be a good indicator that he thinks Sherman will get there if he continues to play at a high level. People are digging so deep in the noise at this point to find a slight to get upset about that it's comical.

To Reed's credit, dude was doing it when you were allowed to do some hardcore stuff on receivers. He was used to playing secondaries like the LoB back in the 80s and early 90s.
Careful with that kind of talk or you'll be labelled a Niner fan or something worse.

I'm literally scratching my head right now...what could be worse than being a niner fan?

This is the usual stupid question asked of an ex-athlete if worth his salt isn't going to give an answer that can just be thrown away. Very much the same type of question asked of J Stevens, when asked about Jerome Bettis playing in Detroit against the Seahawks in XL.

These folks don't report the news, they help instigate the story. Like McGinest (I like Willie but come on man!) with Sherman, or NFLN folks with Cromartie or you name it.

I agree, but in this case it says a camper asked. So it's basically Reed talking himself up to some kid, probably 10 or 11, who loves the Bills and/or Reed. I wouldn't expect any player to say anything less, because it's for the kids. I'm sure Reed knows the truth of it and is glad he doesn't have to prove it. But yeah, this isn't even news worthy. Someone overheard it and was looking for another reason to get Sherman talking probably. I doubt he bites

If you asked him if Deion Sanders, Night Train Lane and Richard Sherman could stop him with triple coverage, I'd still expect him to say no. That's what you want to hear from a WR

Good grief! I actually feel bad for Sherm to have to deal with this crap on a weekly basis. Dude just got elected to the HoF, and he still feels the need to go there? WHY?? Just like Cris Carter going after ABD and Co. as if they weren't at his level. WHY??

I guess I would tell Andre, that he isn't Steve Largent, MIke Irvin or Jerry Rice....even if he thinks he is. smh

And if asked the same question in the same way, Rice, Largent, and Irvin would give the same answer. Phrased differently.

Sure. I don't disagree. I think the phrasing is everything here. I thought the "even if he thinks he is" was a bit of an unnecessary dig at Sherm.

Meh... if I played at a high level for more than a decade in the NFL, I'd feel every right to glorify my past, reiterate how good and fearless I was, and maybe even talk some trash. Just as a fan, if I'm around in 25 years I'll be talking about how Russell Wilson in his prime could shred any D the 2039 NFL could produce. It's part of the fun.

Just because a player retires doesn't mean they lose their competitive juices.

Jim Brown is 78 years old, and still talks mad shit and considers himself the greatest RB in history.

Btw, remember this thread in 30 years when Sherman's in the HOF and tells Erin Andrew's daughter that he could still cover Crabtree's son who now plays for the Niners.

Being a Niner fan with testicular cancer?

Being a Bills fan.

Important evidence:

In the last 14 seasons, the Bills have had one winning season and have made the playoffs zero times. The last year they did both? Andre Reed, Bruce Smith, and Thurman Thomas' last seasons. Doug Flutie was the quarterback.
