Bored a bit waiting for Russell Wilson news or dreading the mini-camp to training camp duldrums?

Here are some fun little reads to pass the time so I thought I'd share :)

Take a trip down memory lane and witness the PC/JS era:

===== 2010 NFL Preview (ESPN)=====
aka PC/JS rookie year!

(full article: http://espn.go.com/nfl/preview10/team/_/name/sea )

Mike Sando predicts a 3rd place division finish:
Matt Hasselbeck gives Seattle a chance to compete in a division without established QBs, but the past couple seasons have shown he cannot do it alone. The Seahawks have many holes, and there's no way to plug them all in one offseason.

John Clayton predicts a 3rd place division finish:
Pete Carroll isn't loaded with talent as he was as the USC head coach, but he has a nice plan to rebuild the Seahawks. As long as Matt Hasselbeck stays healthy, Carroll could squeeze out seven or eight wins.
.

Seth Wickersham predicts a 3rd place division finish:
The Seahawks are relying on too many rookies (Russell Okung, Golden Tate, Earl Thomas) to start strong. But watch: In the second half of the season, the Hawks will upset a playoff team or two.

Five Things To Know
1. Seattle has the best QB in the division -- health permitting: Those last two words hang over Matt Hasselbeck, whose Pro Bowl years have become a distant memory.

2. Front-office infighting shouldn't be an issue: Clashes between former coach Mike Holmgren and former president Tim Ruskell hurt the Seahawks in recent seasons

3. This team is still in the early stages of rebuilding: Deep into camp, the Seahawks had fewer players back from Week 17 last season than any team in the league.

4. Aaron Curry may or may not develop as hoped: The Seahawks are desperate enough for pass-rush help to try developing Curry's skills in that all-important aspect of the game.

5. Pete Carroll will not make like Jim Mora: Carroll has more than one season to get this right, in other words. Mora walked into a situation far tougher than anyone could have realized.

===== 2011 NFL Preview (ESPN) =====
aka The Monster Secondary emerges

(full article: http://espn.go.com/nfl/preview11/team/_/name/sea)

Mike Sando predicts a 4th place division finish:
The gap between Seattle and the other NFC West teams isn't wide. The Seahawks are better in some areas and have proved they can win the division in a down year. Going extremely young without upgrading at quarterback makes this look like a transition year.

Jeff Chadiha predicts a 4th place division finish:
They were the first team ever to win a division with a losing record. This year they'll end up where they belong.

Ashley Fox predicts a 4th place division finish:
It is hard to get excited about Tarvaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst as the quarterbacks. The Seahawks are rebuilding.

Five Things To Know
1. Tarvaris Jackson is the answer: Just make sure you're asking the right question.

2. Youth is served. The Seahawks went through training camp and the exhibition season with the NFL's youngest projected starters for 2011.

3. Size matters in the secondary: Starting strong safety Kam Chancellor towers over most NFL defensive backs at 6-foot-3. He wasn't even as tall as the Seahawks' tallest cornerback -- that's right, cornerback -- through training camp and preseason.

4. Leroy Hill lives: A year or two ago, it would have been unthinkable to hold up Hill as the Seattle linebacker whose future with the team appeared brighter than the futures of Tatupu or Aaron Curry.

5. The OL looks good on paper: Left tackle Russell Okung's recurring ankle problems aren't the only concern on an offensive line the Seahawks have worked hard to upgrade.

===== 2012 NFL Preview (ESPN) =====
aka a 5'10" starting quarterback??

(full article: http://espn.go.com/nfl/preview12/team/_/name/sea )

Mike Sando predicts a 2nd place division finish:
The defense and ground game appear solid. The question is whether Russell Wilson can make the key plays in clutch situations. The evidence has been generally positive to this point, but it's tough to know for sure until the real games begin.

John Clayton predicts a 2nd place division finish:
Pete Carroll has built one of the league's best young defenses. Now, he must prove the way he handled the quarterback situation can lead to a good start and a playoff season.

Adam Schefter predicts a 3rd place division finish:
An odd but gifted collection of talent.

Five Things To Know
1. Conventional wisdom is irrelevant: Coach Pete Carroll disdains it. Taking a three-way quarterback competition through minicamps and training camp provided a high-profile example. There are many others.

2. Gus Bradley is a name to remember: The Seahawks' defensive coordinator warrants a look as a potential head coach down the line

3. The OL tends to change: Seattle's starting lineups under Carroll have featured four players at left tackle, seven at left guard, three at center, six at right guard and four at right tackle over two seasons. That's a lot of shuffling.

4. Under 30 please: Defensive end Chris Clemons is the Seahawks' only projected starter age 30 or older.

5. QB search works both ways: Not only did Seattle need to find its own starting quarterback this offseason, but the team needed to make sure it could find opposing QBs as well.

===== 2013 NFL Preview (ESPN) =====
aka Consensus Pick For NFC West Winner

(full article: http://espn.go.com/nfl/preview13/team/_/name/sea)
Mike Sando predicts a 1st place division finish:
The Seahawks are a talented young team that won 11 regular-season games last year with a sensational rookie quarterback in Russell Wilson who is going to get progressively better. They also have quality depth at almost every position.

John Clayton predicts a 1st place division finish:
Percy Harvin might not make his debut until November or December, but the Seahawks have enough talent on offense and defense to win a tough NFC West.

Ashley Fox predicts a 1st place division finish:
Last season was no fluke. This team will be a contender.

Five Things To Know
1. They have captured the heart of this city: This city is in a total Seahawks frenzy. No sports franchise in the history of Seattle has ever entered the season with higher expectations than this one.

2. Russell Wilson is the real deal: Some people believe Wilson is headed for a sophomore slump following his sensational rookie season. Don't believe it.

3. The Legion of Boom deserves its moniker: Big, fast and physical, the four men of the Seahawks' secondary make up the best defensive backfield in the NFL.

4. Rushing the passer: This was a key area of concern after last season and remains a question mark for the Seahawks.

5. Waiting on Percy Harvin: The biggest disappointment of the preseason was losing receiver Percy Harvin to hip surgery for a torn labrum.

===== In Summary ... =====

A lowly 5 win season starts things off with the hiring of a new GM and coach.

A two year rebuilding of the team.

Year three the Seahawks are ready - Serendipity gives us a franchise QB

Now's it all about sustaining.

Love it.

I remember going to a book signing for Pete Carroll's "Win Forever" back when he first became our coach.

My wife and I got there about an hour early and there was maybe just one or two others there and waiting. By the time he started speaking, there was a bit of a crowd, including .net's own RockHawk, but still just a tiny showing. Imagine now if he was doing a public appearance of that sort. It would be all kinds of insane.

Indeed, that was pretty cool to get it signed and chat with Coach well before his popularity skyrocketed.

"The question is whether Russell Wilson can make the key plays in clutch situations."

Ah, Sando. How little any of us could have known.
