Im ignoring the plays leading up to the field goal attempt because that's not what the original post is about.
kicking a 61 yarder at the end of the 1/2 with no reprocussions, is absolutely the right call. In fact that is about the only time anyone ever tries that kick, because of the field position the other team gets when you miss.
Maybe at the end of a game if you are down, but even then, the coaches think theres a better shot of scoring with a hail Mary.
By the way, he hit it straight and pretty damn long. How stoked would you have been if he's made it?
