Run D will be awful. But the last 5-6 years the D has been really bad the first 6 games then play better. Last year they played bad all year. I think they are better but not enough to notice. We have a nice secondary. But every other part of the D is meh

The talent is better. Just based off of that, we should be better. The problem will be Clint Hurtt and his schemes. Every single one of us needs to have our fingers crossed, because he has a long way to go to be a good DC.

I believe things will improve on defense the longer they play together. Communication has to be better already with Bobby on the field. Being confident in thier assignments will come with playing together. Even the early season LOB struggled at times.

The biggest key is depth. If The 'Hawks can maintain health and are able to keep most of the unit on the field this season, it will be more stout as the playoff push comes.

Can it be worse than last in run D? The only way is up.

1. Wags' impact should be a big positive.

2. Adams's health is a wild card.

3. The secondary is definitely improved.

So I went with better. Run stop is the biggest question.

I feel just having Wagner back improves the Defense. Not in his play alone but his recognition of offensive schemes and adjustments at the line.

This is a very underrated comment, having Bobby back is huge for this defense and pairing him with Jordyn Brooks again is also very vital, him and Barton are no longer running around looking lost. Having Jamal Adams back should also help as long as he learns to take care of his body. The scheme is changing, observers have noted this and it's also been noted that Pete is getting more involved with the defense this time.

Hopefully some DL are cut, and we are able to land a serviceable big in the middle. Still super worried our NT just aren’t very big. Sure they might be fine for 2-3 quarters, but by the 4th they will have taken a beating an probably start to west down. That’s where having a 315+ guy out there helps.

+:
  1. If Jamal can play like his former self and stay healthy, we will be better.
  2. Having Jamal and Bobby is big, but our form 7 still so so.
  3. Coming of age of Boye Mafi.
-:
  1. I am not sold on Jaren Reed can play full time NT, his backup Cam Young is hurt and a rookie.
  2. Our two DEs are not known for run defense.
  3. At his advanced age, should Bobby be taking all the snaps for 17 games? If not, who's his backup again?

4 reasons the defense will be better: (1) the return of Bobby Wagner and Jarran Reed, (2) the newly acquired Dre'mont Jones and Julian Love, (3) an improved Boye Mafe, and (4) the sensational rookies Derick Hall and Devon Witherspoon. (Yes, I said Witherspoon!) A fifth reason might be addition by subtraction: Sean Desai as well as a few pieces that didn't fit.

The question is, how much better?
