And if so, does he take someone's spot? Whose spot does he take, Brown's or Barner's? Or do they shock the fans & keep 4 TE's? Just curious.

My guess is that they will probably keep the guy they drafted from Michigan.
The TD Russell caught could've been any of their TEs. I'm not saying that to diminish what he did. 4 TE seems excessive to me.

But Schneider hasn't asked me for some reason.

I read Barner has struggled in camp but know nothing of him. Seems to be more of a blocking te. If we could just get another Zach Miller it'd be nice.

Noah Fant is part of the 53. Tyler Mabry and Pharaoh Brown, I guess, are tier 2. Right? I mean, Seahawks have waived Tyler Mabry before (back and forth to practice squad) and they signed Brown as a FA. Mabry is on a 900K contract/0guaranteed and Brown on a 3mil +/-/1.44guaranteed. Neither of those are insurmountable deadmoney hits, but they probably wouldn't have been signed if they weren't expected to stay for the season. I'd say Pharoah Brown is very high odds that he makes the 53 but Mabry perhaps less so. That leaves Brady Russel, AJ Barner and Jack Westover- 3 rookies. Russell's on a 915K contract with 0 guaranteed. Barner's on a 4yr/4.7 mil/750Kguaranteed contract. And Westover's on a 3 yr/2.8mil/75Kguaranteed contract. Also, Barner was picked 121st overall and he's from Michigan... where Mike MacDonald coached.

If Brady Russel plays in the next 2 pre-season games and scores again, he could possibly be trade bait for a late pick just because he has such a favorable contract and showed he can fit in on an NFL roster ... and his hair is worth 915K in merch sales. I'm just saying they may be showcasing him to the rest of the league.

It'd be odd to see MMac cut a Wolverine that he knows and drafted. ...not impossible, just not expected.

Westover...seems like potential ending up on the Practice Squad. ...hometown guy, keep the Husky fans happy....

I'd guess that Mabry/Russel/Westover/and Barner are fighting over 1 roster spot and 1 Practice Squad spot. I know Mabry plays Special Teams and that aspect could have a big impact on that final roster spot. It wouldn't surprise me if JS keeps 2 of them on the initial 53 to avoid losing one immediately on waivers, but then turns around and trades one of them for a little return. Of course all that depends highly on the value of each after the next 2 pre-season games.

Having Fant (and actually using him) and Brown and a youngster with potential all on the active roster with another on the Practice Squad seems reasonable and good long term planning, especially if there's a 7th round pick that comes back for one of the others.

Pharoah Brown is the best and most savvy blocker. His guaranteed compensation was a team friendly signing. He's the #2TE.

Special Teams play is a heighten need that must be addressed with the depth choices.

At the moment, I have Brady Russell as the #3.

That last couple of bubble spots on a 53 man roster comes down to the best fit to fill out the team. On offense, he could be a TE, RB or WR.

Coach is saying he wants to see the depth players next Saturday verses the Titans. Saturday's game will reveal a lot.

Mabry is on a 900K contract-fully guaranteed
Good post but i wanted to ask if you are sure on this. Over the cap and spotrac shows $0 guarantees. It would be a weird signing to guarantee him anything but maybe they saw something in him from last year.

That's TRUE. Tyler Mabry also was on the scout team (practice squad) in 2023.

They must like something from him. He's been around since they signed him as an udfa. Heck he even scored a TD in 2022 in the one game he was active.

I'd love to see him take that next step. We could use another move TE if we consider Brown the blocking TE.

I think they keep four because they may want to run a lot of 12 personnel.

His value lies in his versatility. Similar size and value as Brady Russell.

He is well liked by teammates in 2023 for getting them ready for the next contest.

With a new coaching staff and system, there could be a greater role for what they bring to the team.

RB, TE, WR, CB are all going to be hard decisions and guys will be very hard decisions, money and versatility. Who we can trade to give us more money to work with is probably going to be the big factor with the two guys that are neck and neck at the bottom of the depth chart.
