Input consistency is important but output consistency is largely a function of uncertainty. Clutch, destiny, and fate don't really exist; it's all a numbers game. DK is worse at contested catches than some and better than others, but talking about consistency in outputs is a fool's errand.

Consider that the inputs that DK can control are largely effort related. Things like his film study, physical fitness, gameday physicality, blocking effort, and technique execution such as route running or how he plays the football in the air. These are pretty consistent, even when it comes to aspects like his attitude that some here really dislike.

Contested catches are an output, and it's true that DK is not elite at them like a Dez Bryant or AJ Brown. However, nobody makes them all of them, and likelihoods of any sort are ultimately uncertain variables where randomness plays a role.

For example, we can quibble about DK's contested catch rate, but let's say it's lower than 60% and higher than 30%. The rate itself is going to vary depending on whether he's being shadowed by one of the best CBs in the NFL plus a safety (Broncos game), or whether he's going against a young less experienced CB (Patriots). Even if the rate was consistent, say 50% for example, it's still uncertain; like rolling a dice where a result of 4-6 is a catch. DK could go 2/8 in one game and 6/9 in the next game and that isn't necessarily controllable.
Lost me at blocking ability and route running. Go ahead and call me a "fool" as you did for having an opinion that differs from yours, that's fine. But, to ignore his holding calls that have brought key plays back, and lazy route running that he himself has admitted to proves my thought process isn't foolish, actually. It actually proves you're not holding him accountable.

Gosh, must be nice just ignoring everything else lol and thinking dropped passes are people's only gripe about DK.
Yeah how dare Metcalf have freakish size and speed.

How did it work out for the Titans trading away AJ Brown and turning around and drafting Burkes in the first round? It cost Ex Titans GM Robinson his job and caused a huge talent drain on the offense. Elite WRs are kind of important if you do not have an elite QB. And the QB play of the Titans was exposed at that point and the rest is history.

Why would the Eagles want another elite WR to pair with their existing elite WR? They made a Super bowl trip and Hurt isn't an elite QB....

The Patriots couldn't find an elite or even an a very good WR through the draft and refused to bring one in and pay for in free agency. That was a big impetus for Tom Brady to leave the Patriots. And in turn Tampa Bay Bucs were attractive to Brady because of Evans and Godwin. Gronk and the rest of the crew came much later in the off season. In fact after their Super Bowl winning season the Bucs were poised for a repeat but WR Brown had a melt down. And it cost the Bucs in the playoffs against the Rams as they had no WR depth beyond Evans and Godwin.

WRs are gold in the NFL and it crazy to think otherwise with how the league has evolved.

The Patriots with the most cap space this off season couldn't land a top tier or elite WR via trade or sign one. They were trying hard because they know it is that important for that offense to move forward. Without Brady or an elite or true #1 WR that offense is spinning its wheels and going no where the last several years.

Is that really what you got out of my post, or is this some kind of way to shut down discussion?
I'm pretty sure I responded more than that. You're the one that focused on that. So, "is that really what you got out of my post, or is this some kind of way to shut down discussion?"

And to bring it full circle the Rams are limping along because their top flight WRs are injured. Stafford can do only so much....

The Eagles when they faced off against the Bucs earlier in this season didn't have their starting WRs and they were steam rolled....

When the Eagles and Rams have their top flight WRs healthy and ready to go they become very, very tough outs for teams to face...

I think the college ranks produces all kinds of WR talent almost every year. There have been a slew of quality WR's drafted in the last three years or so. On the other hand, it's damn hard to find a top notch pass rusher, OLman, QB, DT.... Being successful has a lot to do with resource allocation.

Another example from today; Aiyuk and Deebo went out and Purdy finished 17-31 with 0 TDs 3 INTs and a 36 QB rating. The trenches matter, but so do the offensive weapons that QBs are getting the ball to.

It’s just that he’s the most shiny player we could get something for right now. Third contracts are not the way to build a team. Especially wide receivers. They aren’t worth it. Lineman are. Linebacker is. Build better. We gave way too much $$ in our wide receiver room.

Consistency is key.
#4 in the NFL.

Outpacing CeeDee Lamb and Justin Jefferson.

And before TraderGary pops up again, no, the offensive load isn't a wave-away. Plenty of guys at level are getting an equal number of targets.

And I swear...one bad route he admits to, and it's revisionist history on his entire career. He's been a C+ route runner, not the straight-line zombie that I'm seeing described. That halftime touchdown was a nice little route.

There just isn't any getting out of the fact that #4 in the entire league is an impressive accomplishment and not something you trade away for a draft pick that could become Lawrence Jackson. I wish some folks would quit reaching so hard to justify the scapegoat mentality. It's leading to actual lies about him and what he's doing on the field, and it's lowering the dialogue.

Those that want to get rid of Metcalf fail to appreciate what an absolute physical mismatch he presents to every DB. He was special today and a huge difference maker for our team. He was a physical force today.

Do agree that there are times where his temper flairs and he becomes a penalty magnet and a distraction. However, 6’ 4” and 235 pounds with legit talent 4.3/40 speed is very hard to find. All this selfish player talk about this player was simply not evident today, he went up for many contested catches winning them by simply out muscling the opponent. He made some exceptional catches today.

Thankfully his injury near the end of the game is apparently not serious

I agree, DK is never going to reach his potential. That's because his potential is so absurdly ridiculous, that it'd be almost impossible to. How many WRs has the NFL ever seen with his physical gifts? He looks like a cheat code at times.

He's a phenomenal player that any team would be lucky to have. His passion is inspiring. It actually speaks highly of his character that despite how intensely he clearly feels things, he always stops short of deflecting blame. He wants to win and he cares about his teammates. I hope he stays in Seattle and continues to re-write our receiving record books.
I agree. I see him as passionate not a head case. He wants to win, not get the ball all the time. He is such a game changing threat. I want him to be a Seahawk for life

Assessing his catch rate should factor in the coverage he’s facing. Dealing with doubles and triples, and being thumped when he makes the catch is a factor that he is regularly unaccounted for in the contested catch numbers. DK gets hit after the play a lot and you see his physical responses. He gives back at times more than he receives.

Anybody who wants to trade DK should go work for the Mariners. Because, as I've said before, that would be a totally Mariners move. Trade away your elite talent in order to save money and be mediocre. And fail to win your division for the 23rd straight year. Is that what you want? Because that's what you're demanding we do.

Teams have traded away elite players to rebalance their roster but the Hawks just extended Love and Williams is also under contract. Spoon and Murphy are on their rookie contracts, etc.

Seahawks cap situation is healthy because this is the pay off by actually drafting better than the not so distant past. It is not like the Hawks have a talent deficiency on defense and they need to trade away Metcalf to rebalance their roster. In fact if Lockett moves on the offense will need more allocation of resources than the defense IMVHO...

DK is big and fast and will give you a big play or two a game. He is not however and will never be elite, I'd take a dozen recievers in this league over him right now.
