I'll talk my trash about the team and FO, because it's fun. But, I'll also give them time to cook something up, it's only fair. Their initial go at launching this new era has been @$$, lol. Doesn't mean it can't be good by seasons end, this season is going exactly as it should.

I'm with Schneider on not overpaying IOL (or any position). There's a big gulf between what many here think a center is worth and what they are actually worth.

His drafting has also been fine over the years given our lack of draft capital. There are too many examples of teams hitting a draft out of the park only to completely whiff on the next draft not to view drafting as highly uncertain.

I do think he's responsible for pretty much everything else. Weighing the short term vs. the long term is the most important aspect of the job, and if this season does end up in flames then all of our short term minded moves look increasingly bad. I haven't loved many of his moves over the years, but found them an acceptable price for having meaningful games in December every year. Whether that remains true this year is still up in the air and will affect my opinion of the front office.

I get it. I do.

We've seen a lot of the same issues and John has some definite blindspots.

However, I don't think he deserves as much hate as he's getting from the fanbase right now.

John has done pretty well for what is shaping up to be 3 drafts consecutively. We've been finding value later in the draft, hitting on our top picks, and overperforming the average.

The roster has young cornerstones to build around.

Yes, the OL has again been a problem - but honestly, right tackle has been the biggest issue, and we're on our fourth stringer. There's no planning around that. He did hit on a near-elite-when-healthy right tackle in the third round. He nabbed 2 great tackles in the same draft.

IOL is a blind spot, yes. Does a Damien Lewis level player for almost 20 million a season fix this though? No, man. It doesn't.

John has, overall, been a steady GM. He's reloaded the roster relatively well time and time again. He finds value in the draft fairly consistently. He works with his coaches.

I say give it some time to see which problems are coaching related and which are personnel related. My suspicion is that the newer offensive coaching staff is getting more leash because they're new, but... suffice to say, I don't think this line looks as bad as they do with guys like Schotty and Solari coaching them. Just saying.

TL;DR: John is still a good general manager regardless of current frustrations. This is his first time with a new coaching staff. If they deserve time, then he deserves time to learn what a whole new staff needs.

At this point, I have to acknowledge that Schneider is not a bad GM, I should also accept that he is just an average GM.

This average GM is in the process of messing up his first big opportunity in being the all-powerful GM,
