IMO Russell was at the best a borderline HOF player before the trade. He never got so much as one MVP vote, so it would be hard to see him getting enough votes to earn a gold jacket. Obviously, he's all but killed any chance he might have had before with the last two season's results. If he were to retire today, IMO he never so much as raises an eyebrow with any of the voters.
