And quite frankly, i love it. One of the things that made the LOB Hawks great was that they came from a period when we'd fallen back into the black hole of direspect and disregard that Holmgren pulled us out of.

That team was galvanized in part by the fact that no one gave them credit for being anything. As a result I remember they were so anti media that they refused to do the post game show appearance after a primetime win. Someone did come out eventually, but their attitude was squarely 'F Yall... if you werent with us before, dont act like youre with us now'.

Having them ranked at 20, up 1 spot from the preseason rankings is a slap in the face. And i get the win against a Bo Nix led Donks team being qualified to a certain extent, but we are behind the likes of CHICAGO, the Bolts, the Jets, the Steelers, the Browns...

All good though. This team doesnt have the benefit of being dimissed wholesale like the early LOB, because we have some stars and a coach with respect and some spotlight, so being thought of as less than some of those above them is good to keep them sharp, angry, and on a mission.

Let them sleep. The flag above the fort will be blue and green by the time they wake.

Our defense looked really good but arguably against a rookie qb who has high expectations but hasn’t done squat in the NFL.

Our offense looked putrid in the first half. One half of being able to run the ball isn’t exactly proof of much. To be honest I expected (and still do expect) much more from this unit.

Moving up one is fair. Depending how other teams do this week, I’m not sure beating the Patriots should move us more than a few spots either.

With all that said, even if they had us top ten it is just someone’s opinion. Fun to talk about but not to worry about

Had the OL not looked like the same mess they have in several years and the offense ran them out of the building all game long we would be ranked much higher but I agree with the overall sentiment. They matter not, and let’s keep that chip on the player’s shoulders.

I agree power rankings are one journalist's opinion and don't mean anything. In fact their is not consistency and lack of clarity what assumptions are made. For example I saw one set of rankings that ranked the packers way down and said this was assuming Willis is their QB and they will go up significantly when Love is back, but other power rankings are based on what they are expected to do for the rest of the season.

Yahoos have us at 12 though I admit 20 is more typical.

For a consensus view of season expections I think SB odds are pretty good. Vegas has us joint 14th (With the Rams) which feels about right.

Regarding whether a win against the Pats should improve our ranking much a lot depends on how it is done. If we win by 30 points and our O line is solid against a Pats defence that was pretty effective against the Bengals then yes it should. If our O-line loks like it did in the 1st half against the Broncos and we only win due to a couple of Blunders by the Pats, then less so.

If we don’t fix the O line problem, we’re going to have a rough time.

Probably shouldn’t be too concerned where they have us right now, I certainly lost a bit of confidence/ hope.

Prefer being low to make the chip bigger for our young players. By week 5 we should have a decent idea who we are. If we do well through the 1st 5, they won't be sleeping anymore.

cool, more made up stuff that doesn't matter - I'd rank us right above The Fantastic Four and just a hair below the Gilmore Girls.

Rankings really don't matter especially at this time of the season, they can keep their rankings, I will take the spankings we give out moving forward.

I honestly think the ranking is fair. I can see how you're upset with a mid pack ranking, as if it's disrespectful to the team. But if you're going to take that mindset of ranking = respect. Then lets also keep in mind that at least when it comes to the NFL, respect is earned, not given. If the Hawks continue to clean up, improve and win games...the respect and ranking will rise. In the meantime, just be glad what we saw in the first half didn't cause the team to implode otherwise you'd be singing a completely different tune.

here we go, the proverbial 'chip on the shoulder'.

Makes people play harder and better don't you know

I don't know why you'd expect a huge jump after a one-score home win against the team they had ranked 27th out of 32.

The rationale seems fair though:

Mike Macdonald earned his first W as Seahawks head coach, and it's no shock that his defense was a big reason why. CBs Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen were strong in coverage. The front -- namely the trio of Boye Mafe, Leonard Williams and Derick Hall -- really stressed Broncos QB Bo Nix in his debut outing. Hall barely saw the field as a rookie a year ago, so his emergence was a pleasant development. But make no mistake: It was an ugly win. I'm worried about Seattle's offensive line. Geno Smith was under fire the entire first half. OGs Anthony Bradford and Laken Tomlinson both were beaten for safeties. RT George Fant (knee) left the game after 13 snaps and was ruled out almost immediately. His replacement, Stone Forsythe, was beaten multiple times for pressures and one sack. Abraham Lucas remains out for at least the first four games, so this could be a big worry, with the Seahawks' next three opponents (Patriots, Dolphins and Lions) all showing in Week 1 they can dominate up front.

They like the defense, but have concerns about the OL. That doesn't sound like irrational hate.

Except we had o line issues the last 2 years and still fielded a good offense overall. Defense was our issue and by the look of it, its been addressed. And last year we were fringe playoffs. I could see 16. But 20? Behind Chicago?

Bears look better than us on defense and the OL. I think they're going to be incredible once Caleb gets his feet a little more wet. I'm probably a little biased though, as there's this chick I know who I really want to nail who's a huge Bears fan, so I've been talking them up a lot lately.
