Mac has never wavered in his support for Geno which should mean something considering how quick he can be to call out poor play and players. When asked about Geno's play, he again stated that he played very well this year and that although he did have the int issue and needs to work through that, he was also quick to reaffirm that many of those errors were 'team' errors. Take that how you will but its pretty evident Mac understands WHY much of the poor play on offense occured and isnt so quick to do away with a qb he considers to be the answer for the Seahawks at this point in time.

I expect them to try to keep Geno here next year and if they can work out a deal that protects them from paying top dollar for a 38 year old player on the decline and leverage the moment they have to maximize his potential in a system that supports him, they will do it. If they thought Geno was the same kind of liability that Grubb was and that riding with him would result in them underachieving for a 4th consecutive year, their plan would be to aggressively pursue other options.

This seems to make it clear that in the HCs eyes, Geno can take them where they need to go right now and best case is getting the guy to replace him on the bench and learning from him asap.
Geno will play much better once we build a first-class offensive line. Most of his interceptions are while under extreme pressure.

I'm not so sure about that. I've seen a number of Geno's interceptions that were due to bad decisions or that he wasn't on the same page with his receivers. Every quarterback can play much better with a first-class offensive line. Besides, just because he was under "extreme pressure" doesn't justify the interception.

QB can be whoever is the most cap friendly and can produce (can't leave the other OFF players out to dry). Geno has decent skills and shows enough to see what the coaches have at other positions

Off-topic (apologies), This offseason is about that OL and getting the last piece or two on DEF. Building up the rotational players is important too, but I feel like that should be a constant endeavor. I'd say that goes for QB too. I'm drafting QBs on the reg.

But he was playing elite at that time, if you don’t have an elite guy you need someone playing at that level. He had a 20-2 TD/int late in the year
This feels a little like moving the goalposts. Someone can't say "the days of winning the SB with a good running game and middling QB are gone" and then say "unless they have an elite season" or "unless they have an elite game" and be taken seriously.

First off I would argue against the notion that Foles' season, 2017 not 2013, was elite when in 7 games he went 57 for 101 and 537 yds 5 TDs and 2 Ints. Secondly, you can't say "well they sucked the rest of the season but in that one game they were elite" and expect to legitimately back up your "gotta have an elite QB" argument. Many QBs, including Geno, can be elite for one or a few games a season.

Agreed. And to that point I share this:

The Hawks are interviewing Hank Fraley from the Lions. In this video they talk about how Fraley could instantly improve Oline play and how Geno was the most pressured QB in the NFL for 2024 and finished 5th in completion % per NFL Next Gen Stats and the Hawks still finished 10-7 and one game away from the playoffs:

Well, many qbs can 'play elite '. You just countered your own argument.
Nah I don’t think many can for long stretches of time. Goff for example is. Is it the team? The system? Him? I don’t know but he’s played really good football for years. Geno hasn’t played elite football since the first half of 2022 for any long stretch of time. Can he in Detroit’s system? Maybe? For that to take place here I’m not sure you have the resources to make it happen before Geno ages himself out.

Point is in the last 10-12 years of the 20-24 QBs in the Super Bowl almost all of them are elite. It’s really hard to make it let alone win it without one. Factor in Geno is going to be 35 next year and it’s even less likely.

Maybe but Foles is one example. Like I posted above 95% of the dudes in it let alone win it are elite. A 35 year old QB coming off a 21-15 with a 22nd ranked QBR and/or passer rating has never been done in the modern era. I sincerely hope Geno wins SB but I don’t see it.

Doesn’t anyone have the stats on who was the most pressured? I’ve seen 4 different teams being called the most oressured?

Anyway I am interest in Fraley I just wonder if he’s going with Ben Johnson?

7 years ago? Rule changes my man. And if you have to dig that deep it really proves the rule
So now 7 years ago is long in the past?
The days of having a great defense, solid running game and a mid QB and getting to the Super Bowl are long in the past.

Geno doesnt have Goffs line, his OC or his system.

Apples and oranges

When Goff wasnt in a system that worked for him, he flamed out. And it was MCVAYS system.

Same with Darnold

These things matter. System, philosophy competence in calling a game...

Protection against a formidable defense when the stakes are high...

Look at what happened to Herbert when he was in a playoff game against a defense that was prepared.

Then look at Bo Nix. Sacked 24 times all year. Least in the league. Why? Not because he is so adept at getting the ball out byt because his playcaller knows what he is doing and puts his qb and tean im position to win.

Mayfield didn't last long in Carolina either and big part of that was how dysfunctional that organization was. Bucs scooped him up but they were already with the remnant of their Super Bowl winning team (eg Wirfs, Winfield, David, Vea, Godwin, Evans, etc). They just had to navigate a cap crunch and remake their team after they lost some players (eg Brady, Marpet, Gronk, etc)

Rams did a similar thing of remaking their team navigating cap crunch post SB and Stafford is back to looking like he found the fountain of youth.

The NFL is a team game and always has been.

When the Ravens went out and nabbed King Henry it wasn't because Lamar Jackson wasn't good enough at QB. But it sure helps to stack talent every where and help the QB.

So to expand on a thought I have been thinking about is in regard to the Falcons and how they handled the QB situation last off season. They choose to give money to Cousins and draft Penix but they tried to do both at the same time which backfired which is win now and look into the future. Had they spend the money in free agency on pass rushers and drafted Penix they probably make the playoffs over the Bucs. Worst part is that they also robbed Penix the ability to build a roster of talent around him by giving that contract out to Cousins. And it squanders a cheap rookie contract that Penix is on over the next few years so the Falcons will have to try to improve the talent on the roster with less resources to help out Penix.

I wouldn't say it backfired. How would they possibly have known Penix would be there at 8? Everyone killed them for drafting Penix when they had/paid Cousins. Cousins didn't play well and they had a starter there waiting. If they had say, Howell as their back up they probably start a flailing Cousins the rest of the year OR play Howell lose out and who are they drafting this year? They logically did what you would hope an organization would do and look 2-3 years down the line.

What team/s could Geno go to today and replace their QB and be Super Bowl contender? With zero other changes?

TheRavens are the only team where it is even a maybe for me. Put him on the Chiefs,Lions, Bills, Texans, etc TODAY and they go from contenders to pretenders. Even the Vikings I think.

I guess I don’t get your point. There is no guarantee Geno does anything close to what Goff is doing if he was in that system. Coaching matters. Execution matters too.

Goff actually had a couple of really good years with the Rams 4,700 yards, 32 touchdowns and a rating over 100. He was really good before going to Detroit

I love reading how inept some organizations are ran. What a ruly hilarious waste of time, money, and a rookie contract. It's so American it hurts.
