Sando does his yearly polling of NFL execs and they put him at 20 at the beginning of the year. These are people who are paid to evaluate this stuff for a living. Now I personally think that's too low. I had him in the 12-17 range before this year with the ability to produce top 10 with some good pieces around him. That didn't work out because of the line and some other stuff but regardless 20 seemed too low. But I would argue if someone has him in the 5-10 range and the people who do this for a living have him at 20 then you're probably a little biased.
His completion % and accuracy are awesome. I don't put a ton of stock in completion % though because its also a function of our ADOT and other stuff. I just don't think that is enough to trump the areas he's been bad in. His QBR being 21st sort of points to that and worse I think in passer rating and DVOA paint a more complete picture.
I don't have him as high as you do but I also don't have him as low as how the rest of the league views him. I do think they put more stock into his turnovers and decision making than the average Seahawks fan does. We will see though. If Seattle lets him test the waters and he gets a big contract you're probably right in your evaluation. If there is no market then I think you should be willing to evaluate where you might be wrong in your view of him? If he gets a ton of money I have to be willing to admit I was wrong too and I would.
People keep ignoring this but where do you do rank Geno? If the league blew up and we had a redraft for one year what quarterback off the board are you taking him? Remember you can even leave out age in this exercise.
I just dont see how you dont put much stock in completion percentage or adjusted completion percentage or leading the league in accurate throws when the guy is also playing behind an abysmal offensive line.
I mean, i get it if he had the protection that Goff gets. There are a few qbs who could sit behind a line that guves you all day and complete a ton of passes.
But to do it behind a line that not only gives up pressure but does so up the middle, right in the qbs face, forcing him to make quick throws or constantly reset his platform entirely??
Here. From Sporting News :
Start quote *The Athletic on Seahawks iOL
“The hardest thing to deal with for a quarterback is when you’re getting interior pressure... When you have pressure on the edges, you can step up and do some things athletically to avoid those pressures. But when you have pressure up the middle constantly, it’s very hard to deal with. So I think coming into the offseason … that has to be a No. 1 priority – fixing the interior of that line."
This is true. Even though general manager John Schneider has said that guards are overdrafted and overpaid in the past, this is clearly the team's greatest weakness and the biggest single reason why they will be on the outside looking in as the NFL playoffs begin tomorrow afternoon.
Seahawks OL is even worse than you think
In fact, the offensive line is even worse than the numbers or the film suggests. Geno Smith's game has flaws, but he's one of the best quarterbacks in the league at avoiding pressure and making plays, and he still got sacked 50 times this season. If they were to start over with a QB who isn't as adept at avoiding sacks the offense might totally collapse under this dynamic. For example, backup quarterback Sam Howell only played about five minutes this season and he wound up taking four sacks.
Put someone like Justin Fields or a rookie back there in Smith's place and they'll likely get hit so often that the passing game will get completely grounded for the year. With a poor run game to boot the Seahawks might finish with one of the worst offenses in football." *End quote
So, how do they go about fixing this group?

And i am not the one trying throw a number or a rank at him. All i keep on saying is that no 20th ranked qb in the world... not even a 15th ranked qb can play for BS oc's, behind a BS O line and finish in the top of the league in accuracy, long ball play, on target throws, completion percentage etc. The very things that should KEEP a qb from atttaining those honors are stacked against him and he has done it anyway.
I dont have the calaculus to determine how high Geno can go, but 2+2 is always 4. And if you can do the half of what he has done in the crap offenses he has had to play, you HAVE to be pretty damn good.
Let 2025 solve that eternal debate around exactly how good .
